Student Fundraising 101

Seriously, there needs to be a limit to the number of bake sales (even if they are all vegan) that take place at schools! We don't particularly like the idea of activists' spending time on fundraising instead of actually coordinating outreach campaigns. When it comes down to it, peta2 will always send you as many free stickers, leaflets, and other resources you may need; all you have to do is e-mail me and ask. But student governments often require student groups to show they are fundraising in order to keep receiving a cut of the overall annual budget, so we've got some tips for you.

To help you out, peta2 created a few student fundraising packs filled with our most popular stickers, pins, and posters! We put everything in them, from "Cut Class, Not Frogs" and "I Am Not a Nugget" designs to our "No Fur" button. It's a ton of great stuff, so check it out. There are even three sizes to choose from, based on how much money you want to invest—the more materials you have, the better your chances of raising more money and getting students all over school to sport animal rights messages. Since the offer is exclusively for students, we're even hooking you up with free shipping! Sounds good so far, right?

Here is our five-step plan for success with student fundraising:

  1. Order peta2's student fundraising pack. It comes in three different sizes, and you can purchase several different sizes at once if you'd like! Drop me a line at College@peta2.com to let me know you've ordered your packs and to make sure we include any literature, videos, and smaller free stickers that you may need when tabling.
  2. Contact your campus activities office to reserve a couple of dates to table in your student center or in another popular area of campus.
  3. E-mail your friends and group members and ask for volunteers to help with your fundraising table. (Make sure you send them a reminder e-mail a day before too.)
  4. Arrive early on the day you're going to table so that you can set up everything. Include a sign that says, "Stickers, pins, and posters. Only $1." Stand beside the table, smile, offer people some information (regardless of their interest in your merchandise), and tell them to check out the table if they have a second. Try to have everyone sign a petition so they can stay in the loop about future ways to get involved. Have fun with it!
  5. After you're done tabling, count how much money you took in and take stock of what was sold. Let us know how it went. You get Street Team points just for tabling, and if you need more literature or other materials, we can get them to you right away! By the time you've sold all your fundraising materials, you will have reached tons of students with a fun message of being kind to animals—plus, you can put that cash to use to further your group's campus activism. Good luck!
