Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins landed in our latest vegetarian ad thanks to her primary-school teacher's lesson to be kind to animals. Missy took her teacher's advice to heart—so much so that she agreed to share the peta2 spotlight (and her lap) with a little guy named Jake. And Jake, being the perceptive little guy that he is, developed such a bond with Missy (and she with him) that we actually felt cruel when it came time to call it a day and bring Jake to the animal sanctuary.
We hope that Missy and Jake will forgive us because this ad will make thousands of people realize that if he hadn't been rescued, Jake's name would instead be “bacon.” And although Missy may have walked away from the shoot sniffling as she waved goodbye to her newfound pal (who we think may have been holding back a few tears too), we walked away inspired. After all, it's not too often that you meet someone whose voice is both powerful—Missy's been compared to Fiona Apple, Suzanne Vega, and Sarah McLachlan—and passionate—she knocked us off our feet when talking about animal rights. Check out our interview to see what we mean.
