The UK and a few other EU countries have introduced bans or partial bans on cosmetics animal testing, but the cruel practice still exists in parts of Europe and other places around the world. Although the EU has finally agreed to a Europe-wide ban on testing cosmetics on animals, the ban won't go into effect until you're married with children. An EU ban on the sale of new animal-tested cosmetics is also in the works, but a complete ban won't be in place until you're married with grandchildren!
So until then, we must only support companies that refuse to perform tests on animals for the sake of vanity. You can do your part by learning which companies refuse to test their products or their ingredients on animals. It's easy – just check out the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection's cruelty-free guide.
You can find a list of cruelty-free products here. Then check out our "Testing … One, Two, Three" video to see what really goes on in cosmetics animal testing. But first, check out a few stars' cruelty-free favourites!

One more thing: remember to beware of companies' statements on packaging or Web sites about not testing their products on animals. Sure, the statements sound good, but they can hide the fact that a company is buying ingredients which are tested on animals. It's the ingredients that we need to be concerned about, since Europe has banned testing the final products on animals. Make sure you keep the pressure on cosmetics companies to use only non-animal-tested ingredients! Just look for the leaping bunny logo!
