Audrina Patridge has a very important message for all her fans: "Don't go to pet stores, don't go to breeders, don't buy an animal—go and adopt." To help spread the word, the star of The Hills donned a pair of wings and became peta2's newest "angel for animals." Check out her gorgeous ad to the right.
We realized that Audrina had actually been earning her wings for quite some time when we found out that she grew up helping her mom rescue and care for stray and injured animals. And ending the cat and dog overpopulation crises is something the reality show star still feels very strongly about. "I wanted to get involved with PETA because I've always been passionate about animals, and I think this is a great way to make people and all my fans aware of all the animals that need a home."
Each year, almost half of the approximately 8 million unwanted dogs and cats who end up in animal shelters will be euthanized because there aren't enough homes for them. And that's just in the U.S.!
The solution is as easy as ABC—animal birth control. Always spay and neuter your animal companions, and never ever buy an animal from a pet store or a breeder. For every cute puppy or kitten you buy, an equally wonderful dog or cat in an animal shelter loses his or her chance for a home.
During the shoot, Audrina told us that there are quite a few animal lovers on The Hills and that she actually rescued Lauren Conrad's cat Ashes herself. Find out what else Audrina had to say in this behind-the-scenes footage from her photo shoot.
Thanks, Audrina!
