Summer Fashion Forecast

by Patricia Trostle

It's time to stash those bulky coats and sweaters in the back of your closet because summer is finally here, and it's glorious! I'm no meteorologist or anything, but I'm predicting lots of sunshine and warmer temps. So dress accordingly, kittens!

For Him

Stocking up on shorts is a no-brainer for summer, but a man cannot live in shorts and tees alone, so broaden your horizon with the likes of these.

Alternative Apparel's Don L/S Henley looks good with just about anything, and if it's good enough for Ryan Reynolds, it's good enough for you. So throw it on with some shorts or a pair of BDG's skinny whiskered jeans from Urban Outfitters. Since jeans can be worn with, well, anything, show some love to old-school icons Run DMC in a vintage tee, which you could also wear with a pair of slouch jeans by BDG—all from Urban Outfitters. Should the need arise to look, um, a bit more put together, try Alternative Apparel's gym polo and BDG's straight chinos. Or throw on a tee and Alternative Apparel's argyle crew to look just a bit more cas. And as far as shoes go, Vans and Converse have way too many vegan options to choose from, so you're on your own. But check out the Vans Madera slip ons.

For Her

Whatever your social calendar holds for summer, rest assured that there are fabulous animal-free options out there, so let's get shopping!

I'm starting with dresses because there are so, SO many amazing ones to choose from for summer, especially at Delia's and on Alloy.com, like B.B. Dakota's Byrdie dress, for instance. It's a must-have, and I love it with the coral lariat (don't worry, it's really made of glass). Throw on a pair of wedges and you're set. And speaking of shoes … I love Michael Antonio's Lucy Mary Janes in navy! They look great with the batik print dress from Fishbowl or dressed down a bit with a pair of Spacegirlz twill extend-tab flares and a smocked tube top. Stella Starr's art deco tunic and Vigoss cargo skinny jeans are a match made in heaven, but if it's still a bit chilly where you are or you're just looking for an adorable comfy top, try Alternative Apparel's Joni baby doll. Too many choices.

For the UK

Goodbye, bulky unflattering parka coats. Hello, summer dresses and pretty shoes! Check out our guide to your stylish animal-friendly summer wardrobe. On the footwear front, wedges are hot, hot, hot! So, it turns out, is nautical style, so we've found the perfect marriage in these blue canvas wedges from ASOS (a heaven for vegan shoes)! Staying on the nautical theme, we love this stripy halter top, which is perfect for summer days and also available from ASOS.com. The Ra-Ra skirt is also making a comeback this summer, and our favourite is from Topshop! Tea dresses and shirt dresses are still big news too. We love New Look's fab range, especially this pretty little dress.

On the accessory front, everything is oversized this season, so grab yourself some vintage-style Gwen Leopard sunnies from Miss Selfridge and keep your peepers protected!

For the men, the hunt for some appropriate summer shorts is on! Luckily, ASOS.com has a menswear section with a vast range. Fred Perry is also a classic – so head for the shops!

Phew, all this shopping is hard work. Iced soya lattés, here we come!
