Every time one of peta2’s public service announcements (PSA) or ads is placed, we receive a flood of e-mails from people who have decided to go vegetarian or stop buying fur or who have cleaned out their medicine cabinet of any products that are tested on animals. Since we’re competing with huge corporations with billions of dollars to spend, it’s not always easy to get our PSAs and ads into magazines or onto the radio airwaves, so we need your help to get them placed.
Print PSAs and Ads
First, go here to view all of peta2’s PSAs and ads and determine which of them you would like to place. Next, contact local newspapers, magazines, school yearbooks, and other print publications and ask to speak to an advertising sales representative. Tell him or her that you would like to see one of peta2’s PSAs in an upcoming issue. Explain that you are placing the ad in behalf of a nonprofit organization, and ask him or her to give you any nonprofit discounts that the publication might offer (because most, but not all, offer these) or, if possible, to donate the space. If you can’t get the space donated, organize a fundraiser at your school or around town to raise money to cover the cost.
After you have determined how much advertising space you can afford, be sure to get as much of the following information from the sales rep as possible:
- The sales rep’s name and telephone number
- The size of the ad in inches, not column inches
- Whether it will be in color or black and white
- What format the final ad needs to be in, e.g., PDF, JPEG, Quark, camera-ready
- The postal or e-mail address where the ad should be sent
- The line screen
- The deadline to submit the ad
Once you have gathered this information, or if you have any questions, e-mail peta2@peta2.com. We will size the ad for you and get it to the publication as soon as possible in the required format.
Radio PSAs
Getting peta2’s radio PSAs played on local stations is a piece of vegan chocolate cake. Mmm … cake. Right, so go here to listen to peta2’s PSAs featuring Saves the Day, The Deftones, Hawthorne Heights, and others. Once you decide which PSA(s) you want to pitch to the radio station(s), e-mail peta2@peta2.com so we can send you a broadcast-quality CD. At that point, you can mail or hand-deliver the CD to the radio station(s).
Unfortunately, radio stations receive many PSAs from various nonprofit organizations on the local and national level. They can pick and choose what they will play, but you’ll never know unless you get in touch with them and ask! It is probably best to see if you can set up an appointment with the PSA director to have her or him listen to the CD and to explain why you think it would be an important message to share with the community. In other words, “sell” the PSA and gain his or her interest.
In exchange for helping to get peta2’s message out in your community, we’ll give you 1,000 Street Team points. Pretty sweet, don’t you think? Of course, you’ll have to sign up for the Street Team to earn those points.
