All throughout the school year, we receive thousands of e-mails, phone calls, and blog comments from students telling us how their schools fare when it comes to vegetarian and vegan options. Based on these recommendations—combined with our independent research into both the quality and the quantity of meatless meals available on campus—we compile our annual list of nominees.
In addition to the dishes available in the dining halls, we take into consideration the receptiveness of the university to student recommendations and its efforts to educate students about the health, environmental, and ethical benefits of a vegetarian diet. We also look carefully at the improvements schools have made each year in order to keep up with the growing demand for delicious, creative, and humane cuisine.
