There's no reason to be ashamed for checking your Facebook 37 times a day. We all do it! But rather than joining yet another "Chuck Norris > Jack Bauer" group or trying to set a new record for "the biggest Facebook group ever," why not spend that time filling your "newsfeed" with something useful, like spreading animal rights? Here are some fun ways to get active, without even getting up from your chair!
- Let's get this party started: If you don't already have a Facebook account, set one up for free by visiting Facebook.com!
- Join our group, and don't forget to hit the
button to post our group to your profile! You can do it as many times as you want! We'll even make you an "officer" if you ask really nicely. - Visit "the Marketplace"! Why sell yet another pair of used pants when you can give away something useful, like a FREE vegetarian starter kit? Advertise these fun, free items, and be sure to link to peta2.com so people can redeem them!
- Check your status! This is an easy way to let others know where you stand on cruelty to animals. For example:
- Visit the discussion boards on our page. Get answers to all those questions you have, and talk about what you've been up to.
- Don't forget to post photos too! We love photos!
- Leave animal rights messages on your friends' walls. Inform students about upcoming animal rights events by leaving a comment on their "wall" for all their friends to see. Since peta2 works with a lot of the most popular bands, search for student profiles that list these bands and leave them a note on their wall like "Sarah, check out the interview with Death Cab For Cutie on peta2.com."
- Write "notes"! It's like passing a note to your friends in class, except you can do it even when you oversleep. How about sharing some of our band interviews or videos? Be sure to include pictures!
- Create an event. Use this feature to invite people to your group meetings and inform everyone about upcoming events on your campus. When creating an event, be sure to list the event as "public" so that everyone on your campus can view it.
- Create photo albums! It's a no-brainer, folks. In this day and age of camera phones and other newfangled contraptions, it only makes sense to post all those pics from peta2 tabling and other fun activism for the world to see!
- SHARE! SHARE! SHARE! Use the "Share" feature to post everything! Videos, contests, etc. Also, be sure to use the "Bookmarklet" feature so you can broadcast exciting news onto Facebook from anywhere on the Web! For example:
- Don't forget about applications! With new features popping up left and right on Facebook, you'll want to judge how each of the new applications can be useful to your online activism, such as using Facebook Video to upload clips from peta2 TV.
So what are you waiting for? Go cause a ruckus on your mini-feed and Facebook it up! Be sure to let me know what you've been up to by e-mailing College@peta2.com.
