Go Vegan With Arch Enemy

By Megan Rondeau

Swedish death metal band Arch Enemy has been rocking steadily for well over a decade. First conquering Europe before taking their well-respected brand of innovative metal worldwide, Arch Enemy has solidified itself as one of the greats in a fiercely competitive genre. We recently caught up with the band's lead vocalist, Angela Gossow—a lifelong vegetarian turned ardent vegan—who had a thing or two to say about getting healthy and going vegan.

As a "conscious vegetarian" since the age of 17, Angela Gossow chose to take a stand against the factory-farming industry—an industry that exploits workers, devastates the environment, misleads consumers, and murders animals. The mass production of animals raised for food is responsible for creating more greenhouse-gas emissions than the entire automotive industry. It also takes an exorbitant amount of land, grain, and water to maintain factory-farmed animals. Sixty percent of the world's grain is fed to animals who will become things like "Happy Meals," while more than 900 million people in the world do not have enough to eat. When you combine those jaw-dropping facts with the proven link between a meat-based diet and many of the nation's leading killers—heart disease, strokes, and cancer—it's clear that adopting a vegan diet is the best thing that you can do to help yourself, the planet, and the billions of animals slaughtered for food every year.

Watch the video below to hear what Angela Gossow has to say about her decision to go vegan, why you should be disgusted with the meat and dairy industries, and why vegans aren't sissies!
