PETA2 agents talk about Goldfinger's new album and concert tour

How can you not love a show that starts out with John bailing into the audience immediately?! That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the night. And I really admire him for his activism—he educates you without cramming it down your throat, you know?

They did a good mix of old and new songs including “Counting the Days,” “Bedroom,” “Balloons,” “San Simeon,” “Mable,” “FTN,” “Open Your Eyes,” and “Spokesman” ... and a few others I can’t remember.

The garden gnome thing was a bit weird—I’m still not sure what they were doing onstage ? anyone? And it wouldn’t be a Goldfinger show if you didn’t see Darrin’s ass! That kid who ate that Twinkie out of it is brave, to say the least. Would it be too much to ask to hear the Wayne Gretzky song live next time, Darrin?

Their shows are always so much fun. The music’s fast and furious, and they have the best stage presence. Brian and Kelly are just all over the place, nonstop. And you can tell that they really appreciate their fans and just want everyone to have a good time. If you’ve never been to a GF show, you suck! No, just kidding, but get off your ass and go next time they’re in town—you won’t be sorry.

“Open Your Eyes” is the rad new release by Goldfinger. It’s full of all sorts of enhancements, including videos, photos, and an extra song and video of awful slaughterhouse footage. How could anyone eat an animal after seeing that mess?!

For those of you who were as worried about Charlie Paulson’s absence as I was, fret not, kids … Brian Arthur kicks ass! He’s a great addition that will surely bring GF fans much joy—of course, that sucks for Unloco.

Anyway, this CD is loaded with energy, and I love it. I can’t pick a fav song, though “Open Your Eyes,” “Spokesman,” “Decision,” and “Happy” are my favs for now, but I’m sure that will change the more I listen to it. Oh, and FTN is awesome—with that jab at Jennifer Lopez, how can you not love it?! And Dangerous Darrin’s prank phone calls are great—much better than that Crank Yankers s__t on Comedy Central.

And just how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Perhaps we’ll never know, but one thing we do know: Goldfinger rocks!

Goldfinger, The Abyss. Virginia Beach, Virginia. June 2, 2002
Open the show with a 10-foot stage dive. Then sing half of the first song while crowd surfing. Rip through the whole show without slowing down, except to assert, "I love animals; I don't eat them," and have an adoring fan eat a Twinkie out of Darrin's ass.

With songs coming from nearly all their previous releases, Goldfinger thrashed through many of their more popular tracks, like "Mabel" and "Superman," but also played some lesser known, harder and faster songs like "Question" and "FTN" (from their new album). In traditional style, the songs got faster and harder as the band journeyed down their set list. John belted out every song in the show with energy and intensity.

This same intensity can be found in Goldfinger’s 2002 release "Open Your Eyes." Staying consistent with their past albums, ?Open Your Eyes? incorporates fast skatepunk, ska, and slower, more deliberate tracks. What makes this record different is that it dedicates a significant amount of time and space to animal rights. It is clear that Feldmann is a committed animal rights activist. There are songs completely dedicated to animals, such as "FTN" (about Ted Nugent and Jennifer Lopez) and the title track, "Open Your Eyes."

The disc also runs a fair amount of multimedia, including the PETA video "Meet Your Meat" with an acoustic song by Feldman called "Free Me." The song adds real emotion to the already graphic and disturbing video, and it exemplifies Feldmann’s dedication to animal liberation. ?Open Your Eyes? is a great combination of punk rock and animal rights and will undoubtedly educate anyone who chooses to listen.

Goldfinger is fun to watch. Their new guitarist, Brian, is so hot. I want to marry him.
