Introducing Joss Stone’s Vegetarian PSA

Joss Stoneby Patricia Trostle

When Joss Stone burst onto the music scene a few short years ago, she blew everyone away with her powerful, soulful voice—a voice that critics have said “can sting like aged bourbon or melt like strap molasses.” Belting out songs with a force unlike anyone else of her generation, Joss has sold millions of albums, been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, and made fans of all ages worldwide, including many right here at peta2, so when we found out that Joss was a vegetarian, we jumped at the chance to work with her. Lucky for us, she was able to pencil us in one afternoon, and the result is a beautiful new peta2 vegetarian public service announcement (PSA).

Joss, who was voted the “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian” in peta2’s 2005 poll, has never eaten an animal, and she actually used to sing “Amazing Grace” to the cows in the field. “I’m a singer, a songwriter, a performer, and a human being accepting of all sizes, shapes, colors, and species,” she says in the PSA. Introducing Joss StoneThe chickens at the shoot quickly picked up on that vibe and became her newest fans. “The chickens were so adorable and really comfortable. I think one of them started to fall asleep in my arms. So sweet!” She adds, “I was born a vegetarian. I wanted to do the shoot because I feel there is no need to cause another living thing pain or harm. There are so many other things we can eat. I have never eaten meat in my life, and I’m 5 foot 10 and not exactly wasting away. A wise man once said, ‘Animals are my friends, and I’m not in the habit of eating my friends.’ That is exactly how I feel.”

It’s much easier than you think to stop eating our animal friends, so why not take the Veg Pledge and give it a try? You’ll feel better physically and mentally. Just click below to get started. You won’t be sorry.
