Think all indie musicians are starving artists? Think again! Just as Rilo Kiley members take much of their inspiration from their natural surroundings, bassist Pierre de Reeder reaches out (revealing his indie-rock heart on his sleeve) to the most natural diet, vegetarian. Now, both band and bassist are thriving.
We ran into Pierre on tour with Rilo Kiley, promoting their latest album More Adventurous (or should we say More Ad-VEG-turous!), and he couldn't wait to share his strong animal rights opinions. The compassionate chap juggles not only the bass, but also the acoustic and keys on stage. So his well-rounded perspectives on everything from experimentation to fur shouldn't surprise anyone.
What exactly were those perspectives? We think one very animated line sums it up. "Go up and pinch your dog and see if he yelps. ... That animal experiences pain in that moment," Pierre told peta2. Whether they're calves who are confined to the itty-bittiest of spaces with no chance to turn around or move, baboons with thick tubes shoved up their nostrils and into their stomachs, or a conscious fox who just had his skin ripped off, all animals feel pain exactly like our cats and dogs.
We could tell you what else he said, but he obviously does a much better job. Plus, he wants to show you his cruelty-free shoes and belt!
