What is it about punk bands from New Jersey that makes them so open to animal rights? We knew Midtown, Saves the Day, and Thursday thought cruelty to animals was uncool, and now we’ve discovered that Senses Fail has a soft spot for animals, too! It must be something in that New Jersey water. Or maybe it’s all the air pollution. If we could isolate the cause of their empathy and sense of justice, we’d bottle it and give it away at Warped Tour for free, infecting kids across the country and creating a kinder, more compassionate nation. But since we can’t, we’re going to have to spread the message the old-fashioned way, by word of mouth. So here it is straight from the mouth of New Jersey punk sensation Senses Fail’s bassist, Mike Glita.
Maybe all the time he’s spent on the open road traveling and playing shows is what makes Mike acutely aware of how boring and miserable life must be for lions and other animals stuck in small cages in zoos. Or maybe spending all that time stuck in a van with four other dudes just gives a guy some time to think. Maybe he’s thinking about his rescued cats at home and how much they would hate to be locked up. Who really knows what goes through Mike’s head? You could try to figure it out by reading through the lyrics and liner notes of Senses Fail’s new album, Let It Enfold You. Or catch them live this fall and ask him yourself.
