J.Cruel Campaign

If you’ve been to JCruel.com, then you know that PETA is asking J.Crew to stay true to its word by going fur-free. J.Crew knows what happens to animals on fur farms, yet the company continues to sell fur—supporting an industry that confines animals to tiny, filthy cages and kills them by clubbing, anal or vaginal electrocution, or even skinning them alive.

We’ve come up with just a few ways for you to help the countless rabbits, foxes, coyotes, and other animals killed each year for J.Crew clothing and earn some free stuff for yourself while you’re at it. Of course, you have to join the peta2 Street Team to get in on the fun.

To help you with your efforts, please request free J.Cruel campaign materials and e-mail peta2@peta2.com with any questions.

Activity Points

Organize a demonstration against J.Crew.
Contact peta2@peta2.com at least two weeks in advance, and we’ll make the task of organizing a demo a heck of a lot easier for you. We’ll send you supplies and send an alert to local activists to let them know about the demo, and we’ll even contact the local media. Check out our guide to demos for some helpful pointers.

Send dead flowers to the fur pimps at J.Crew.
Send CEO Millard Drexler a bouquet of dead flowers and a card telling him what you think of J.Crew’s cruel clothing line. Snap a photo of your funeral arrangement and send it to us to get the points, and if you post your photos at peta2.textamerica.com, you’ll score an extra 500. But before you do anything, check out the full details of this mission here.

Participate in a demo against J.Crew.
Attend a local demo organized by PETA, a local group, or your friends. Join the peta2 Street Team so that we can alert you about upcoming demos in your area.

Take literature and our J.Cruel DVD to your local J.Crew.
Talk to the manager about our campaign. Tell them why you and your friends won’t be shopping there, and offer them a J.Cruel DVD so that they can see for themselves exactly what is so horrifying about fur. Be sure to let us know the location of the store, the name of the manager you spoke with, and how it went.

Hand out leaflets at a local J.Crew.
Take an hour out of your day to hand out leaflets at a J.Crew store. As long as you are standing on public property—like the sidewalk—J.Crew can’t make you leave. Residents of California can even leaflet inside malls (ask us if you need help setting this up). You can have a pack of leaflets mailed to you or print some yourself and get started right away!

Write letters to the editor.
Use the “Letters to the Editor” section of your local newspapers to inform people in your community about how animals suffer for J.Crew. Be sure to explain that the best thing that readers can do for animals in the clothing industry is to stop wearing them, and be sure to mention our J.Cruel Web site! Click here for PETA’s tips on letter-writing. Send us a printed copy of (or a link to) your published letter to earn bonus points.
