Despite the fact that KFC's own animal-welfare advisory board told the company to take steps to improve the lives of the more than 850 million birds raised and killed for its restaurants each year, KFC has still done nothing to prevent the worst abuses that animals face in its factory farms and slaughterhouses. To help show consumers the truth about KFC, we've come up with some big, bold stickers that read, “Closed for Animal Cruelty,” and we want to send one to you.
Chickens raised for KFC are crammed by the tens of thousands into sheds that stink of ammonia fumes from waste, and they are given barely enough room to move. They routinely suffer broken bones from being given steady doses of drugs, being subjected to rough handling (like when workers grab birds by their legs and stuff them into crates), and being shackled upside-down at slaughter. Chickens are often still conscious when their throats are cut and when they are dumped into tanks of scalding-hot water. When they're killed, chickens are still babies, not yet 2 months old out of a natural lifespan of more than 10 years.
Order your very own “Closed for Animal Cruelty” sticker now, and place it in a highly visible place. For legal reasons, we can't encourage you to put the sticker on your local KFC's door or drive-thru menu, where lots of people will see it and then probably not eat there—no, that would be just horrible, wouldn't it? Who would do such a thing?!
For 1,500 Street Team points, snap a quick photo or two of your stickering action and send them to peta2.pics@tamw.com with StreetTeam@peta.org in the “cc” field. We'll post them for all to see at peta2.textamerica.com and maybe even on the peta2 daily blog! To participate in this mission, you must first sign up for the Street Team.
