Every year, millions of animals are routinely cut open, tortured, and killed in gruesome lab experiments. Just like us, animals trapped in cages behind the closed doors of laboratories deserve to be treated with compassion. This Valentine’s Day, we want you to tell your friends to “have a heart for animals” by buying cruelty-free.
No matter how corporations try to spin it, experimenting on animals is cruel and unscientific. The millions of rats, mice, cats, dogs, primates, and other animals tortured in labs every year live in small cages or crowded conditions, never knowing what a normal life might be like. They live in constant fear and suffer through painful experiments, often without any painkillers—all to test some hairspray or toothpaste. While workers cut, burn, suffocate, and poison animals, the number of people who die of cancer, AIDS, and heart disease continues to grow. When it comes to pain, hunger, and thirst—and not wanting to die—we’re all basically the same.
Here’s what you can do to let your friends know how easy it is to buy cruelty-free: Download and print peta2’s Valentine’s Day cards for each of your friends. Fold the cards in fourths along the lines labeled “Fold Here,” sign the inside, and give them out to everyone you know. If you want to take it one step further, set up a table at your school and give out cards to everyone during lunchtime on Valentine’s Day, or slip cards under the doors at your dorm.
After you give cards to all your friends, send a report to StreetTeam@peta2.com and give us all the juicy details. You’ll earn 1,000 Street Team points for handing out the peta2 cards on Valentine’s Day and another 1,000 points if you include a picture when you send your report. (If you aren’t on the Street Team, sign up and get started.) And be sure to tell your Valentine(s) to check out peta2.com for more info on being cruelty-free!
