Dorado, a 5-year-old dog running in this year’s Iditarod race, died during severe weather on March 15 in Unalakleet, Alaska. According to news reports, Dorado was left outdoors unattended after his musher, Paige Drobny, “dropped” him from her sled team.
He was exposed to temperatures of negative 15 degrees Fahrenheit and 45 mph winds!
Dorado died painfully of asphyxiation after he became buried in snow.

Alaska law requires animal caretakers to provide animals with a safe environment, which was apparently not given to Dorado resulting in his cruel and horrifying death.
We need your help to make sure that justice is served! Here’s what we want you to do:
Send a polite note to the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office and ask him to file criminal charges against those responsible for Dorado’s death! Submit a copy of your e-mail for 350 Street Team points.

How would he or she like it if they were their dog.

Why do people not like animals. If she did not want the dog on the sled team she could of just let him inside because Dorado was still her dog. But she should never do that again to any animal she owns

This is so cruel. How can someone leave such a beautiful animal outside in this type of weather to die like that. This is terrible, I really hope the District Attorney’s take action; but I will do my part.

More proof that these people that race and use sled dogs don’t care about them. They consider them like you or I view our cars or a bus. Just someTHING, not a being with feelings.

I HONESTLY BELIEVE IF YOU CAN NOT COMMIT WITH YOUR HEART TO HAVING ANIMALS THAN DON’T BOTHER TAKING THEM INTO YOUR HOME.
THIS CRUEL OBJECT SHOULD BE PUNISHED FOR ALLOWING HIS SIBERIAN TO FREEZE TO DEATH; WHILE HE IGNORED HIS CRIES OF PAIN IN THE BITTER, BITTER ALASKA FREEZING COLD.

Please all concerned people. Please demand justice for the suffocating death of Iditerod dog Dorado, who was left outside in -15 degree weather by Paige Drobny, who didn;t want to use this dog for her team anymore.

I read about this in the Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/peta-seeks-criminal-charges-in-death-of-dog-dropped-from-iditarod-trail-sled-dog-race/2013/03/19/ee9f8ea4-910f-11e2-9173-7f87cda73b49_story.html
“’We thought that our dog was being cared for,’ he said. ‘That’s the race organization’s responsibility. We, as mushers, trusted them.’
Race officials have said the weather delayed efforts to transport dropped dogs sooner.
There were at least 135 dogs in the lot that night, and a race official told the Anchorage Daily News that locals, volunteers and veterinarians worked on protecting the animals from blowing snow and wind.
Most of the dogs stayed the night inside two airport buildings, while Dorado was among three dozen dogs held in a spot behind the buildings that handlers reportedly believed would protect them from the wind.”
And in the Alaska Dispatch:
“‘Dorado and all other dropped dogs were last checked at 3:00 a.m. on Friday morning,’ Iditarod officials said in a statement Saturday. ‘Between that time and daylight, drifting snow covered several dogs and Dorado was found to be deceased.’
Dorado underwent a gross necropsy by a board certified veterinary pathologist, which determined the dog died from being buried in snow.”
Yes I’ll send an email and YES the dang race should be more closely regulated, or even better, eliminated!
