peta2 Book Club: 'Thanking the Monkey'

I’m not going to lie: The cover of this book was the first thing that attracted me to it—that and the fact that vegan celeb Emily Deschanel (love her!) raved about it. I first read Thanking the Monkey back when I went vegan in high school, and it has been my favorite book ever since!

Thanking the Monkey is funny yet super informative about almost every animal rights issue. The author, Karen Dawn, talks about animals used for food, clothingentertainment, experimentation, and more. It’s no surprise that I consider this book my little animal rights encyclopedia. :)

As soon as I started reading it, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to put it down. Inside the book, you’ll find animal rights comic strips, celebrity quotes, inspiring animal stories, and more! I found myself interested and getting more inspired to speak up for animals with the turn of each page. Thanking the Monkey is the perfect book if you’re trying to find ways to answer those tricky and sometimes annoying questions that you can get at the dinner table. Oh, and it’s the perfect animal rights book to share with friends and family—believe me, they’ll love it!

So what are you waiting for? Go to your library or bookstore, and pick up this book! Then just submit your review (and make sure that it’s your own—we check!) for 750 points!

I quite enjoyed the book. When i showed it to my roommates, u could tell it made them think twice about what they’re putting into they’re body. More importantly it answered alot of questions ive had on animal abuse that i knew nothing about. I give this book 5 stars lol. A really great read.

This book was amazingly informative. I loved it! Berfore i ate dinner, I would always look for any facts about what might be in that food. Everytime i saw ciggerettes on T.V or in magazines I thought about what are the poor monkeys thinking when they are being tested. It shows how smart animals can be and how dumb humans can be. I really think they should make a documentary on this book. Again, I LOVED IT! FOR ANY ANIMAL LOVER!!

this book is a really good informative book. It tells you all about why we should treat animals like we would our girlfriend or boyfriend should be treated, well in a way. This book must be read by all animal lovers and should be shown to non-animal lovers.
