During the Toro de la Vega—a “festival” that takes place every September in Tordesillas, Spain—a lone bull is harassed and chased through the streets and into a field, where men are waiting with lances. The bull is then tortured and repeatedly stabbed until he falls to the ground, crippled and dying. His testicles are often cut off while he is still alive.
Last year, the bull—named Afligido, which means “sorrowful” in Spanish—eventually died after being stabbed in the head with a screwdriver.
Tradition is NO excuse for cruelty.
Please write to the regional Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the mayor of Tordesillas, and the Tordesillas Tourism Office and urge officials to end to this cruel and sadistic “celebration” permanently!
