Arc of Justice: Changing Lives on a Campus Near You!
Have you ever been sitting in history class, wondering how in the world people ever thought that it was OK to enslave other human beings or deny women the right to vote? Have you thought about how wrong it is that people have had to fight for the right to marry whomever they choose? Well, it’s one thing to judge the past, but if you lived in those times, would you be the one fighting for what’s right? peta2 is traveling around the country this fall to pose this exact question to college students.
“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
Inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.‘s statement that “the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice,” peta2’s Arc of Justice exhibit shows the timeline of the animal rights movement—including victories, setbacks, and milestones. Students and staff who view it will have the opportunity to consider the history of animal rights and how it’s similar to other major social justice movements. The exhibit will help people consider which side of history they’re on and see how the simple choices they’re making now could one day be considered unthinkable.
And what about our food choices? With the endless scientific evidence that animal agriculture is the most environmentally destructive industry on the planet, that eating dead animals and their milk and eggs causes chronic disease, and that ALL animals feel pain and fear, it only makes sense that people would choose a vegan diet. We’ve seen the trend growing, so it’s likely that people in the future will also look back in horror on the practice of eating animals’ body parts.
When the Arc of Justice comes to a campus near you, be sure to stop by! Take a picture and share it. Help get the word out about the injustices humans have imposed on animals. They need you to speak up for them.
