Model and singer Jane Birkin was the inspiration behind Hermès’ Birkin bag, but after viewing our exposé of alligator and crocodile factory farms that send skins to Hermès-owned tanneries, she no longer wants her name affiliated with the cruelly produced bags.

The exposé revealed that workers repeatedly shot alligators in the head with a captive-bolt gun and cut into more than 500 conscious alligators, among OTHER horrors.

Most alligators had raw skin around their jaws. Experts say that this painful condition may be a result of the farm's filthy, severely crowded conditions.

These crocodiles have just ostensibly had their necks cut, a wire rammed down their spines, and their brains scrambled with a metal rod.

In a statement, Birkin says, “Having been alerted to the cruel practices endured by crocodiles during their slaughter for the production of Hermès bags carrying my name … I have asked Hermès Group to rename the Birkin until better practices responding to international norms can be implemented for the production of this bag.” Crocodiles-and-Bag

On behalf of all kind souls in the world, we thank Ms. Birkin for ending her association with Hermès. YOU can help! Tell Hermès to stop selling products made out of crocodile and alligator skins now. Hermes-Logo facebook share button twitter share button
