But What's Wrong With UGGs?

YES. It’s getting cold and we need to keep our footsies warm and snuggly, but guess what? Our feet can stay just as warm, comfy and cute WITHOUT wearing UGGs! But what’s wrong with UGGs you ask? In a word, the truth about UGGs is very UGGLY.

UGGs are made in Australia, where the wool industry is known for forcing lambs to endure “mulesing,” in which chunks of skin and flesh (the size of dinner plates) are cut from the animals’ backsides using gardening shears, often without any painkillers. Yes, gardening shears. WTF?! Also, wool shearers are paid by volume, not by the hour, which often results in frightened sheep getting kicked and punched with shears to get them to “cooperate”.

Like the reality of factory farming, once you see it with your own eyes, you can ignore no longer. So if you need more convincing, watch this.

Buying sheepskin products from Australia directly supports their cruel wool industry. For a pair of boots that can easily be made with alternative, NON-bloody materials? Come on now.

Here are some of my fave warm vegan boots sans the UGGly-ness.

Faux Shearling Furry Lined Vegan Boot from Alternative Outfitters: Warm and comfy? Check. Cute? Check. Most importantly, cruelty-free? CHECK.

If you wanna mix it up, hop on the sweater boot.  These are also super comfy and warm. Just make sure the inside is faux as well. 😉 Try Old Navy’s appropriately named “Adoraboots“.

Don’t want to blend with the trend? Kick it up a notch with Sugar Women’s super cute patterned Cardigan Boots.

With all of these options, it’s no wonder everyone’s giving UGGs the boot. Show the world you, too, can stay warm with compassion by steppin’ out in these vegan boots!

Be the change,

In Montreal, SOOO many people wear Uggs boots and Canada Goose Coats with a fur trim hood because it is in “style”.
If only they knew about the inhumane actions that take place in order to produce such unoriginal choice of fashion, these girls would not be wearing these fuggs! It makes me sick.
Be original! Wear something that stands out instead of wearing something that makes you look just like everybody else…

I bought some comfy faux fur boots from Fashion Bug for 15 dollars. Cheap, comfy, warm, cute, and cruelty free! They come in gray (which is what I have), tan, dark brown, and black. Check em’ out! <3

uggs are f*ck uggly =L never liked them. Never wanted them and the cruelty makes em worse o.O

When I first saw that everyone was buying these UGGly things, I wondered why the f*ck people spend their money on this, and now to top it off they do these horrible things to innocent animals just for boots! “I almost dead sure that every girl at my school has or wants a pair of those awful fugly boots.” (Posted by: Emily December 18, 2010 at 8:57 pm) I know I agree Emily, and I believe it’s most likely because they follow trends and other people who wear them. It’s pretty idiotic. Most girls in my school now have these things that make me swear my heart out; their so beeping ugly! F*ck UGGS.

I just posted this article on my sister’s facebook wall and I told her “HOW WARM DO YOUR FEET FEEL NOW, SHEEP STOMPER!?” Hopefully she feels some bit of remorse 😀

  • 1619 days ago

Seriously, the way the make UGGs is crul and on top of that they are insanly expinsive! There are better things to dish out 200 bucks on…

I personally like the ugg concept (comfy and warm feet) but I just hate what they do to the poor little sheep, that’s why while I went to Wal-Mart I got two pair of this, a black one and a brown one (:

  • 1623 days ago

I hate ugg so much there ugly even without the sheepskins. I almost dead sure that every girl at my school has or wants a pair of those awful fugly boots. I have a pair of the boots from old navy so warm and much cuter than uggs will ever be. Uggs are Uggly just like fur is dead. : )

i am confused as to why:
    people wear uggs
    people like uggs
    austrailia is mean to sheep
austrailia ships their sheep to china
    austrailia uses gardening shears
    uggs are considered cute
By The Way….I have some Adoraboots…luv them!

Why on earth would anyone would want to spend money on this uggly piece of crap! They are out of style! They look so plain and nothing goes with them but sweats! eww I would never wear uggs! worlds uggliest shoe in the world!!

  • 1631 days ago

I seen the ones from Old Navy a while again. There are cute and soft.Only thing is I don’t think they’ll last in the snow. But great for walking in a mall or something.

  • 1631 days ago

Egad… every preppy bitch at my school loves their uggs. Uggly uggs. Really, they’ll wear ’em with sweatpants, wear ’em with skirts, wear ’em in the middle of freaking summer. I absolutely hate uggs, the sweaty, inhumanely made, clog-ish looking things, converse sneakers for the win. 😀

    awesome! needed this!!

I saw a pair of UGGS recently and the tag stated: made in China. ??? Even worse, those sheep were eventually hauled across the ocean while alive in extremely horrid conditions from Australia to China.

  • 1632 days ago

I don’t like uggs, their plain looking and everyone has them so whats the point. People who wear them have a lack of good fashion!!! why make an animal suffer all for boots.

  • 1632 days ago

I Always Thought Uggs Were So Overrated, Anyways! I’m Going To Buy Me Some Cheap Boots From Wally World Instead. 😀

  • 1632 days ago

Uggs are a status symbol, for the nouveau riche crowd.
They would wear toilet paper if it was expensive enough.

  • 1632 days ago

not only is that shit fuckin uggly…its cruel…but omg that shit is like moon boots!!!! its like wow your foot looks like a man already…and then u put those on…5x bigger.

  • 1632 days ago

thank you for this article. I’ve been confused as to if any wool is produced humanely, so many people say that the sheep are just shaved and there’s no harm to the animal, but clearly with many wool clothing items that is not the case. Keep up the great work exposing cruelty!

  • 1633 days ago

ugh! i hate UGGs! why do people spend their money on the? not only are they bad for animals but there just plain ugly too! people who wear them not only have a lack of style but also lack of knowledge in what they buy!

    • 1213 days ago

my feet are always cold in new england, and that pile fur lining is the only thing I have ever tried that keeps them warm doesn’t matter if they’re ugly to me. but it matters that animals suffered to make them, so I’m here with cold feet looking for something as warm as real sheep wool lined boots. I won’t buy another pair of uggs but nothing else warms my toes! I’m moving to somewhere warmer someday, but I’m stuck here for now and COLD! anyone else found an equally warm alternative?????
