California Gov. Jerry Brown just signed a bill into law that will prohibit the breeding of captive orcas! It also prevents orcas from being used in performances for entertainment purposes starting next year. 🎉

This is a historic moment and a step in the right direction. This law will ensure that future generations of orcas will not have to experience the torture of being trapped in a cramped tank for years on end. While this is great news, it will unfortunately still allow SeaWorld’s new misleadingly titled “Educational Encounters” with orcas, which will continue to teach the harmful message that animals are ours to use for entertainment. Orcas will still jump and splash for dead fish in the same tiny concrete tanks.

Keep Fighting for Their Freedom

✊ Keep avoiding SeaWorld and other marine mammal parks until they stop using animals and move the orcas to sea sanctuaries (large enclosed coves in the ocean) where they will have a more spacious environment and not be forced to perform.

✊ Urge your state representative to support the Orca Responsibility and Care Advancement (ORCA) Act, which would ban captive-orca breeding throughout the U.S.
