CareerBuilder is planning to run a new commercial featuring chimpanzees during the 2011 Super Bowl, despite hearing from thousands of concerned consumers after the company aired ad campaigns in 2005 and 2006 that portrayed chimps as misbehaving office workers.
Chimps used in the entertainment and advertising industries are prematurely taken from their mothers and often suffer physical abuse from trainers in order to perform confusing, unnatural behaviors on cue.
By the time chimps become too strong to be safely handled (around 8 years of age), they’re often discarded at unaccredited roadside zoos or otherwise warehoused in appalling conditions (e.g. inadequate food and vet care, cages littered with garbage and feces, etc.).
Please send a quick, polite note to CareerBuilder here and urge the company not to air its new commercial featuring chimpanzees.
