This has been the year of celebs sticking up for animals, let me tell ya! So picking PETA’s Man and Woman of the Year was not an easy task and one I’m glad I didn’t have to do. But it just so happens that two of my fave people have been honored (I swear, I didn’t have anything to do with it). The fabulously funny Ellen DeGeneres and the always stylish Tim Gunn have been named PETA’s People of the Year!

Since Ellen and her wife Portia went vegan, the hostess with the mostess has almost made it her mission to spread the word about the treatment of animals who are raised and killed for food. She had Jonathan Safran Foer on her show to talk about the suffering of animals on factory farms, made vegan pizza with Chef Wolfgang Puck, and even put cruelty-free tips and vegan recipes on her site. Yay, Ellen!

Style guru, Project Runway host, and creative director at Liz Claiborne Inc. (the company is fur-free of course!), Tim Gunn, has been a voice for animals abused by the fashion industry for years. While he was chair of Parsons Fashion Design Department, he started a program allowing PETA to give presentations so students could see first-hand what happens to animals killed for their hides. He also narrated our “Fashion Victims” video, exposing the cruelty behind the fashion industry, and recently told the Los Angeles Times, “Wearing fur is like wearing a big sign reading, ‘I’m in favor of inflicting cruelty and pain on animals as a fashion statement.’” Oh, Tim, you always know exactly what to say.

Congrats, Tim and Ellen! It’s almost time for peta2 to name our Person of the Year in our annual Libby Awards … got any suggestions? I’m sure you do. Leave a comment below telling me who you’d nominate for peta2′s Person of the Year, then check back in January to see if your faves made the list and vote!

    Hey everybody:
Ringling Bros. Circus “The Saddest Show on Earth’ is on their daily trek of exploiting animals, abusing and breaking their spirits for human entertainment. Contact your local HSUS or Peta so you can print up brochures and spread the word for people not to take their kids to the circus. Many times, they abuse the elephants right in front of them. Kid can go home crying. See http://www.ringlingbeatsanimals.com. They are so cruel. I don’t know how they are still getting away with it.
Write your local Senator and Governor to BAN animal circuses. It is nothing but abuse!!!

I have always lived in Los Angeles but my family and I went to Mexico for my parents wedding. So we came back to LA. I don't like LA but were here already what can I do unless I move out and find my own housing. I have always liked animals and it was til I was like about 14 when I learned about tests they do on animals and I began to explore animal cruelty because I was interested it in it. I have watched videos that just broke my heart so that's why today I'm doing all I can to not buy anything that has harmed an animal and I'm vegetarian .
