DIY Makeup Remover

Sometime I feel like I would die without my makeup remover! (Dramatic, much? Maybe.) There’s nothing nastier than going to bed with gunky mascara caked all over your eyelashes—makes for a lovely morning (NOT). I like my makeup removers to be cruelty-free, gentle enough to use around my eyes, and super-duper affordable. That’s why I’ve resorted to making my own! Here’s one of my fave quick and cheap DIY beauty recipes.

sunshinecity / CC by 2.0

DIY Makeup Remover
1 cup filtered water
1 1/2 Tbsp. cruelty- and tear-free baby shampoo
1/4 tsp. jojoba oil

  • Combine all the ingredients in a cosmetics bottle.
  • Shake well.
  • Apply with cotton pads.

What’s your favorite DIY beauty recipe?

I just use olive oil and water in a spray bottle, works great and moisturizes (:

I’m going to try it! I only use eyeliner and mascara (no base or eyeshadow) but that stuff is hard to get off.

baby shampoo can dry out your skin, even with the jojoba oil. think of all the chemicals that go into it to make it tear free. i am a hairdresser and never recommend using baby shampoo to anybody (even to cleanse cosmetics brushes) because the ingredients in it are so harsh on the hair and skin (it strips all the moisture away from your hair and scalp, so imagine what it can do to the skin on your face). when trying to chose a skincare product think of your skin like this: the skin on your body and scalp is like a paper towel, the skin on your face is like a 2 ply tissue, the skin under your eyes is like a 2 ply tissue with a layer taken out. dont use products on your face or under your eyes that are meant for the body (its a different thickness of skin), just like using face cream on your body wont do as much as using a cream specifically used for your body.

if you are looking for the purest form of makeup remover possible, use coconut oil. take a small amount of coconut oil and emulsify it in your hands and rub it on your face. then wipe off with a cotton pad or tissue. follow up by washing your skin with (raw if possible) organic honey and baking soda….. mix 1tbs of honey with 1tsp of baking soda in your hand and let it sit for a minute then rinse. if you would like to you can apply a tiny tiny amount of coconut oil on your damp face afterwards and that will act as your moisturizer. coconut oil is a natural antioxidant and has anti aging properties to it. just make sure to use organic virgin coconut oil (it looks like crisco in a jar).

I am 13 years old and joined the street team June 2015. I am a vegetarian. I have a passion for working to help save animals. I love my family and my 2 pugs, Daisy and Diesel. I plan to work for Peta or Mercy For Animals someday because they helped me become a vegetarian and begin a whole new life of having common sense towards all animals.
