Fake Meat On A Stick!

Lemme guess: When you tell people you’re vegetarian or vegan, they tell you, “I can’t believe you can’t eat [insert something that an animal was killed for] anymore! I could never be vegan.” The truth is, these days, you can make pretty much everything vegan. Deviled Eggs? Check. Stuffed Crust Pizza? For sure. Lasagna? Duh.

More proof that all those dishes you might have thought you could never eat again can, in fact, be made vegan? The Betty Crocker Project, an endeavor that peta2′s own Dan Shannon and his wife Annie have taken on to veganize every recipe in The Betty Crocker Cookbook. Daunting? Yes. Awesome? Of course!

I was lucky enough to get my obsessed-with-vegan-food hands on a Betty Crocker Project creation recently when Annie and Dan made ribs and corn on the cob. Yup, vegan ribs. I may or may not have eaten just as much as the dudes did. Just sayin’. Check these babies out:

The texture was great, and though the vegan version looks different than the standard flesh on a bone, I like that about them. These little numbers were made with Match Meats, an awesome vegan meat alternative, and three different glazes. The recipe can be found here. If you’re the type of person who likes to get a little messy when eating, then slather these bad boys up with your fave BBQ sauce (and lick the extras off your fingers). YUM!

Check out more of Annie and Dan’s awesome creations here. And tell me: What food were you surprised to find out could be made vegan?

I was surprised to see vegan ‘fish’ fingers! I’d only ever seen mock meats and never mock seafood.

Those look scrumptious, though actually they’re not “fake”, just made from plants instead of animal parts. The original definition of “meat” was “anything not drank” or something along those lines. Using the word “fake” just kind of degrades the food, which is exactly what the animal-meat/dairy folks love to see.
Veggie-meat or vegan-meat are much better, and more accurate, descriptions. Thanks !

I have always lived in Los Angeles but my family and I went to Mexico for my parents wedding. So we came back to LA. I don't like LA but were here already what can I do unless I move out and find my own housing. I have always liked animals and it was til I was like about 14 when I learned about tests they do on animals and I began to explore animal cruelty because I was interested it in it. I have watched videos that just broke my heart so that's why today I'm doing all I can to not buy anything that has harmed an animal and I'm vegetarian .
