Fifth-Grader Receives Compassionate Action Award
Nothing brings a bigger smile to my face than when I hear about kids who are being awesome for animals, especially at school.
We’re giving mad props to fifth-grader Nicky Schwarz for showing compassion to even the littlest of creatures—worms.
Nicky has a huge heart and the knowledge that if you want to help someone in need, you simply have to get active. Nicky decided to take action by circulating a petition for an alternative to a school reading challenge in which the school’s principal was going to eat fried worms if the kids read for half a million minutes. The kind adults at his school agreed, and through his efforts, Nicky demonstrated that compassion should apply to all creatures, no matter how small they may be.
PETA is honoring Nicky with a bagful of PETA goodies, a framed certificate of his Compassionate Action Award, and a letter of recognition.
