1. How long have you been vegan? What influenced you to make that decision?

I was a vegetarian for while before I became a vegan. When I first started out as a vegetarian, I started for health reasons. Every time I would go out to lunch or dinner, I’d eat a burger, and every time I’d eat something “meat-related,” I’d get sick. Once I became a vegetarian, I started to realize that I had way more energy throughout the day, and even when I was playing shows. I liked the way I was feeling by not eating meat, so I kept with it.

2. What are some of your favorite vegan foods? Do you have any go-to spots you have to hit up when you’re on tour?

Some of my favorite vegan foods … hmmm … I’m pretty much what they call a “raw-vegan.” All I usually eat is broccoli, asparagus, mushrooms, eggplant, and you name it! Haha. If I’m on tour and I am not doing the “raw-vegan” thing, I will usually go to Chipotle, and get the veggie bowl w/rice, black beans, corn, and salsa. Sometimes Noodles & Company has great vegan dishes if you know how to ask right. Whole Foods is also my jam.

3. Of all the major animal rights issues are there any issues that are particularly close to your heart?

Yesterday I rode my bike 34 miles through farms to get to this lake a couple of towns down from me, and I passed a farming facility that was housing hundreds of cows, and all I could think of is how bad I felt for each and every one of those animals locked up. To me, farms who harness animals, are prisons for animals. Cows didn’t do anything to deserve that, or any animal for that matter.

4. If a fan were to approach you with questions about how to get involved with animal rights, what advice would you give him or her?

Well first, I would hand them a PETA packet and say, “read this.” Secondly, I would tell them that ever since I became a vegan, my thought process has changed a lot about animals, and their feelings. I know some animals that are smarter than most people I know haha. Also, tornadoes and floods are everyday occurrences. If you pick up the paper and see that you could help out animals in need that have been injured in everyday occurrences just by calling a number, do it.

5. What does For The Fallen Dreams have coming up that we can be looking forward to?

We are about to go out on the “Over The Limit” festival with Bury Your Dead, Evergreen Terrace, In the Midst of Lions, Thick As Blood, Hundredth, Betrayal, and Murder Death Kill. After that, our next full U.S. tour will be a co-headliner with Oh, Sleeper, Upon A Burning Body, and three others. Our third full-length record just came out on May 24th, on Rise Records, called Back Burner so go pick it up at a store near you.

For your chance to win a copy of For The Fallen Dreams’ newest release, Back Burner, leave a comment below letting us know what animal rights issues are closest to your heart. Entries must be received by June 17, 2011 and three winners will be chosen at random and notified by June 20, 2011. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law.

The animal rights issues closest to my heart would have to be the seal slaughter, elephant abuse, and the abuse of chickens and turkey’s. It makes me so sad to see animals tortured 🙁 It’s an unnecessary evil! Why is it done? Because people are too immature to be civil. They’re like cavemen or something!

My favorite campaign to fight for is the seal slaughter. I have truly spent alot of time getting the word out to my friends and having them send emails into the prime minister. I mean, it’s just sick how evil some people could be. 🙁

Puppy mills have always caused me great pain because of the relationship I have with my dog. She was a rescued dog from a puppy mill. She is the sweetest dog you will ever meet, and even though her brothers and sisters all had major health problems, Bella, the runt, is healthy and thriving.
She inspires me to never give up, and defeat the odds.
Oh, and she loves music as much as me. (: So we would sit on my bed on listen to this together before we fell asleep.

I am strongly against fur. It’s not just ignorant (we have no need for it), it’s disgusting, as well.

some of the animal rights issuse’s that are close to my heart are animal abuse i actually did a whole power point persebtion on it for my english 3 class. it was about animal testing, animals in circuses, and every day animal abuse i made people think about what horrible people do to poor defenless animals and when hte students were asking me questions i almost started to cry because helping animals is what i was put on this earth to do and thats what i will do till the day i die. another animal rights issuse thats close to my heart would be going vegan to save animals. ive be a vegetarian for almost 3 years and im getting to be a vegan im almost there. the reason its close to my heart is because i love animals all animal and i hate it to see them get hurt my horrible people they dont desever that they did nothing to us so we dont need to harm them they are aboustly adorble and should not be eaten or beat or hurt in any way shape or form 🙂 i really i hope i get this cd because i love For The Fallen Dream such a great band 🙂

The animal rights issue that is closest to my heart is testing on animals for Cosmetic Products!! There are companies out there that can do it without testing on animals-their fan base is as supportive as ever!!!

the animal rights issue that is closet to my heart is all the animals we take from their natural habitats, lock them up, beat them, train them, and ruin their lives for our entertainment. there is most definitely enough entertainment in music alone to keep people occupied, why can’t everyone in the worlds see that?

To me, all animal issues, such as improper treatment of farm animals and selling animal fur, are important in one way or another. I just try to take action against whatever issue I can, such as by not eating meat products to send a signal to livestock farmers abusing their livestock that that’s not the way to go.

The closest animal right issue to my heart is animal testing. Specifically makeup. Almost every girl wears it, and most of them know that they we’re tested on animals or SOMETHING, but don’t care enough to change up the brands, when it’s really easy to change it. (:

The issue close to my heart would be breeding, & the animal trade because that’s uncalled for & people shouldn’t buy pets unless their willing to commit to take care of it for as long as its alive! people can be so irresponsible

They’re all close to my heart and important, but the one that really motivated me to do something was cruelty to companion animals, particularly rabbits. It pisses me off to no end that cats and dogs have all these protections (which can be pretty easily ignored without anyone noticing, which also pisses me off), but my bunnies and other animals don’t get that same right. It makes me angry!

Cock Fights. Mostly, because someone very close to me hosts them. Not only is it illegal, but what did those poor roosters do to deserve that? I am ashamed of this person very much. I’ve tried talking to him about it.. but he insists it’s the money. He needs money. But, In my opinion he does it for entertainment. He records the fights! One of them was hosted in my own house! I was about nine years old when i saw my first cock fight. Just the look of that poor rooster caused me pain.. I can’t imagine how much it hurt him, he was the one that died eventually.. </3 This is not okay. I am doing everything possible to try to make him change his mind about doing such things.. 🙁

There are alot of animial rights issues that are close to my heart. I feel better knowing that someone in a band has some of the same feelings I have about stuff that people do to animals. Its cruel and they don’t deserve it at all. One of these issues is abandonment of animals and pets, I have a dog who we got from an animal shelter in Philly, they found him roaming the streets because someone abandon, and beat him. When we adopted him, it took him a year to finally settle in and all he wanted was a home and family who cared about him. He’s such a great house pet now.

Adopting animals instead of buying. Saving an animals life instead of allowing someone to profit off of using animals for breeding. Adopting saves the life of an animal that would otherwise be put to sleep.

Animal experimentation, for sure because not very many people are aware of it, yet once they know about it almost everyone agrees there’s no sense it testing makeup or shampoos or bunnies and mice. xoxoxo

The animal rights issue that’s closest to my heart would deffinatly be the fur and skin corporations. I have pets and I would absolutly never want to see them as a coat so why would I want anybody else’s pet to be?
    🙁

Back when i used to live on a farm, I made friends with one of the chickens that were used for laying eggs, and then when it got too old my parents killed it an ate it for dinner. 🙁 And i have been a vegan ever since.

Animal Rights issue closest to me…. hmmm.. Theres so many!!!! But it probably have to be factory farming and inhumane slaughtering…. I just think its so incredibly wrong, to box up animals like that and make their SUPER SHORT lives absolutely terrible. And then to make it worse they slaughter them horribly as well. This is the closest to me, because its just not right! I know all Animal Rights issues are terrible and not right, but this one infuritates me the most. It is one of the big reasons I became a vegetarian

I like the way he thinks.
Ive been more into the vegetables all my life but like 2 months ago i really decided to be 99% vegetarian (Sometime they hides like meat in products, so thats why not the 100%)

but i do my possible to eat no meat at all.

and it’s true that we feel way better when we eat other things than meat

My “favorite” animal right issue is abuse of companion animals (even fish). I did a whole presentation to my school in 5th grade about puppy mills, and i even helped to get a law (called the PUPS act) passed.
