For The Fallen Dreams' Vegan Vocalist
As if we haven’t given you guys enough free stuff lately! This summer’s Flesh is for Zombies campaign has gotten off to a killer start, and Michigan metal band For The Fallen Dreams is the perfect band to kick off a 5 Questions giveaway. Check out our Q&A with vegan vocalist, Dylan Richter, and enter the contest below to win a copy of the band’s new album!
1. How long have you been vegan? What influenced you to make that decision?
I was a vegetarian for while before I became a vegan. When I first started out as a vegetarian, I started for health reasons. Every time I would go out to lunch or dinner, I’d eat a burger, and every time I’d eat something “meat-related,” I’d get sick. Once I became a vegetarian, I started to realize that I had way more energy throughout the day, and even when I was playing shows. I liked the way I was feeling by not eating meat, so I kept with it.
2. What are some of your favorite vegan foods? Do you have any go-to spots you have to hit up when you’re on tour?
Some of my favorite vegan foods … hmmm … I’m pretty much what they call a “raw-vegan.” All I usually eat is broccoli, asparagus, mushrooms, eggplant, and you name it! Haha. If I’m on tour and I am not doing the “raw-vegan” thing, I will usually go to Chipotle, and get the veggie bowl w/rice, black beans, corn, and salsa. Sometimes Noodles & Company has great vegan dishes if you know how to ask right. Whole Foods is also my jam.
3. Of all the major animal rights issues are there any issues that are particularly close to your heart?
Yesterday I rode my bike 34 miles through farms to get to this lake a couple of towns down from me, and I passed a farming facility that was housing hundreds of cows, and all I could think of is how bad I felt for each and every one of those animals locked up. To me, farms who harness animals, are prisons for animals. Cows didn’t do anything to deserve that, or any animal for that matter.
4. If a fan were to approach you with questions about how to get involved with animal rights, what advice would you give him or her?
Well first, I would hand them a PETA packet and say, “read this.” Secondly, I would tell them that ever since I became a vegan, my thought process has changed a lot about animals, and their feelings. I know some animals that are smarter than most people I know haha. Also, tornadoes and floods are everyday occurrences. If you pick up the paper and see that you could help out animals in need that have been injured in everyday occurrences just by calling a number, do it.
5. What does For The Fallen Dreams have coming up that we can be looking forward to?
We are about to go out on the “Over The Limit” festival with Bury Your Dead, Evergreen Terrace, In the Midst of Lions, Thick As Blood, Hundredth, Betrayal, and Murder Death Kill. After that, our next full U.S. tour will be a co-headliner with Oh, Sleeper, Upon A Burning Body, and three others.
