Free Stuff Friday: Black Upcycled Wallet

Being vegan and eco-friendly definitely go hand in hand. Meat’s not green, and neither is buying new stuff when you have the option to recycle and reuse.

That’s why we’re giving away a super-fab eco wallet for this week’s Free Stuff Friday (can we say, “Perfect gift for Father’s Day”?). ;)

This Holstee wallet is handmade mostly of newspapers and plastic bags collected off the streets of Delhi, India. The production of this wallet helps reduce waste in Delhi, and workers receive fair wages and subsidized healthcare and education for their family. Sweet, right?

For your chance to win this Holstee Black Upcycled Wallet, tell us below one of your favorite eco-friendly tips.* Good luck!

*The winner will be chosen at random from submitted animal-friendly comments in which the commenter tells us what his or her favorite eco-friendly tip is. Entries must be received by June 8, 2012. The winner will be chosen at random and notified on June 11, 2012. Be sure to read our privacy policy and terms and conditions, as you’re agreeing to both by commenting. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law.

Not eating meat definitely helps our planet… Also supporting organic and natural food sources is good. The gmo’s in most of our food, mostly distributed by Monsanto, is like eating a veggie Frankenstein, and they dumb us down with all the chemicals…. And when we are dumb, we will be unable to even THINK of going vegan, or recycling, or reducing our wastes, or doing anything efficient for mother earth.

Reduce wastes by eating vegan, riding bikes or walking instead of driving. Reuse things- like wash water bottles instead of buying new bottles each time, take old items and make them into new things like jeans into purses etc.

Breath in, and breath out, we need to stand united and protest against the cruelty of animals, no more should they have to be killed, stand up against the cruelty, stand up against the pollution, stand up and declare, WE ARE HERE, WE ARE ALIVE AND WE WILL BE HEARD, no more will we stand by while the earth is destroyed, no more will we stand on the side lines and watch as animals all over the world are being killed for human consumption, we can not stand by and watch our planet be destroyed, we must stand up and fight for what we beleive in, a planet where all life is created equal, where plants and animals are cared for with the love and peace from the bottom of our soul, recycle, reuse, replenish the earth so that it may last generation after generation and then and only then will we be able to live happy and free, I love all of you, May you be happy and peaceful, treat eachother and our planet with great respect and love the animals who do nothing but love us, dont mistreat, LOVE Just LOVE

The three R’s! Reduce, reuse, and recycle! That’s definitely my favorite eco-friendly tip–it’s catchy, simple, and beneficial to remember for our environment. If everyone can remember those three simple words, then our environment would greatly be helped since reducing our waste will also reduce energy used to rid of the waste; reusing materials will decrease the amount of waste that ends up in landfills; and recycling can also help decrease the amount of energy used in creating new products.
    Soo…REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE!

Easy up-cycle that involves drinking!! ;) And it’s totally stuff you/ us affected “hipstershits” haha can/would do do! Sure, we don’t want to admit it.. but our two-buck chuck at trader j-hoe’s is becoming a bi……..tri? *ahem* weekly occurrence. Imbibe first, natch- it actually helps if you have a few collected first… then soak those bottles is some hot dr. bronners soap until the labels fall/easily peel off (we don’t want residue- just that green jewel-toned glass), and repurpose them as vases and windchimes. Hell, any of it that breaks, set in on a smooth surface (end tables, those decorative ball thing- I modge podged /lacquered broken up-cycled glass and made into some rad coasters!)  As for the corks, our entire front garden island is mulched with natural cork! very unique.

One of my favorite eco-friendly tips is to always use either a travel mug when visiting coffee shops or your own mug at work. Forget disposables, they don’t have any personality & if you have some ugly mugs lying around at home, bring them to work, someone’s bound to steal them ;)

As a devoted eco-friendly activist, it is hard to choose just one of my favorite tips. But if I had to choose one, I’d say recycle everything you can, whether through reuse or putting your bottles, cans, glass and cardboard in the recycling bin. Because we currently live in a “throw-away” society, recycling is a very important action that needs to be taken by everyone in order to preserve our resources.

One of my favorite eco-friendly tips is composting. Compost can be used as a fertilizer. Other fertilizers can contain chemicals that can pollute the environment. This can cause damage to animals, humans, and even some plants. Especially when those chemicals pollute the water the use.

Simplify your life as much as possible. Only keep belongings that you use/enjoy on a regular basis. By making the effort to reduce what you own, you will naturally purchase less/create less waste in the future.

Reusing packaging material saves more energy than recycling. By avoiding extra packaging, you save both energy and landfill space. Yard and kitchen waste (leaves/grass/vegetable scraps) are 30% of trash. Reduce this amount by composting. Also be sure to re-use plastic bags, or better yet… refuse plastic bags when you really don’t need them.

My eco-friendly tip is to use vinegar instead of harmful chemicals on floors and other surfaces. Products such as Swiffer Sweeper cloths contain deadly chemicals that have been proven to make dogs and cats sick , as well as killing them. The ‘fresh air scent’ is attractive to animals and they lick floors touched by the cloths.

Vinegar is natural, eco-friendly, and perfectly harmless. It smells a bit , but that dissapears once it dries. You can combine it with water and it cleans wood, plastic, linoleum etc. beautifully.
The next time you have to clean a dirty surface, use vinegar instead of perfumed chemicals- Your pets and your body will thank you!

I am very eco-friendly!! so this is easy for me to answer. My favorite eco-friendly tip is to plant a tree.
One tree releases enough oxygen to sustain only TWO PEOPLE, so its obvious that we need to plant a heck of a lot more trees.
Trees also help to reduce ozone levels.
I actually wrote down 20 eco-friendly tips and taped them to my refrigerator so all my family can read them and help out. :)

Obe of my favorite eco friendly tips would be recycling obviously! I’ve recently gotten into reusing my sandwich bags, because it saves us money, and also saves the amount of plastic bags going into the dump. Also remember to turn off the lights when you leave a room, a little action which easily makes a big difference <3
    love <3
