Free Stuff Friday: 'Go Veg' Animal Flip-Flops

Profile photo of peta2

Posted October 14, 2011 by peta2 staff

As a huge fan of cute and practical shoes, I’d like to break some not-so-newsy news to you: Flip-flops are perennials. They may seem like they’re warm weather–specific, but they’re not. Here’s why:

  • Flip-flops are great for dorm lifeβ€”aka sharing bathrooms with roomies (which can sometimes be icky).
  • They are a must for the gym! There are so many microbial germies lingering in gym showers that you don’t wanna take any chances with bare feetβ€”trust me!
  • You can rock ’em while you paint your lovely toenails and still be able to walk around your house without worrying about smudges, smears, and other naily mishaps.
  • You’ll be SO stoked you have these when it does get warmerβ€”you won’t have to deal with shopping with the hordes of flip-flop fanatics come spring. πŸ˜‰

Check out these ridiculously cute flippies that we’re giving away this week:

For your chance to win a pair of “Go Veg” animal flip-flops from Elizabeth’s Kind CafΓ© (you get to pick between the two styles above), comment below by telling us your favorite way to inspire people to go veg. A winner will be chosen at random.* Good luck!

*A winner will be chosen at random from submitted animal-friendly comments telling us the commenter’s favorite way to inspire people to go veg. Entries must be received by October 21, 2011. The winner will be chosen at random and notified on October 24, 2011. Be sure to read our privacy policy and terms and conditions, as you’re agreeing to both by commenting. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law.

I don’t like forcing people to do something they want. But, I’m a great persuader. I like to tell people some facts about animal cutely that they may have never heard and may shock them and then I like to tell them the health benefits from being vegan. I love to tell them how much better I feel and how much happier I am being vegan.

for me personally, I like to tell my story of why I’m vegetarian. When I was about 7 or 8 I watched my cousin and his ” friend ” chop a dogs tale off and then light him on fire, killing the dog. πŸ™ horrible, but it does get a point across, and that’s for sure.

My favorite way to inspire people to go veg is to tell them about what kind of extreme torture that the animals go through when they go into the factory and even before they go in, and telling them why being veg is a healthier life choice. And then showing them the videos that show what the animals go through.

i tell people about the way that people treat animals. its appalling how people abuse them. “euthenizing” and “putting down” are just cuter words for murder. Some people say that animals are unimportant and have no feelings. those people are heartless. animals have life. protect that life.

I love telling them how animals are treated and ask them if they really know what they are eating. Once I tell them what is really in the food they eat and how animals are treated to make the food they eat they stop eating their meat and ask me for vegan recipes and etc… And I encourage them even more by telling them their favorite band or singer or whatever is vegan/vegetarian! and that helps a lot.

I tell my friends and classmates about animal cruelty. Many know already about how they are slaughtered, and don’t eat at McCruelty, KFC, etc. Even though they are not vegan…. but some of my friends still are ok about dissection… there’s this thing where we can choose where we can choose what AR class we wanna be in, and once a week we will be doing an activity, such as French, creative writing, basketball… and dissection. I wanna tell people who are joining that class about the poor animals they would be dissecting.

I show my peta booklets on how industrial farms treat there food so it can be swelled by us at fast food restaurants and also what goes inside the animals; all the chemicals that harm them and us when consumed. Also I have a ton of cd’s that I have received from peta and I hand them out to my friends as well! I think of it this way, people may think of it at survival, but you can survive without eating your dear friends! Imagine an animal could talk, they would be just like us! Wouldn’t want to be hurt, nor in pain, and would just want to be apart of the world and make friends!

starting at home helps, making veg meals for everyone. Like making pasta and replacing ground beef with soy “meat” Everyone still seems to enjoy it. Also, a lot of people feel like they’re being preached to or hassled when trying to convince them to go veg. Even if some one enjoys eating meat work them with baby steps. They could buy from organic companies or just eat less of meat in their daily menu and replace it with soy products. Going veg may not be for everyone but that doesn’t mean they can’t help out at all.

I don’t believe in pushing my believes upon other people but I do present the facts to them and tell them what is going in the factories they get their food from. And if they choose to continue to eat that food, that’s there choice, but eventually they one day just glance down and see that there is something wrong with what their eating. Go vegan! (:

Why should we kill animals ? Where is the need ? They are helping us in many great ways…Actually we should celebrate them for their wonderful sacrifices for this world.Unfortunately the worst human animals are killing these wonderful animals…Surely it’s a sin according to HINDUISM . . Let us be a human forever . . .

I always ask people what they would say if they heard of someone slicing the throats of dogs or cats. Their response is usually one of horror. Then, I tell them what happens in the slaughterhouses to the many cows, pigs, chickens, etc. I also send them a link to the “Meet Your Meat” video. That is what made me a veggie 5 years ago. What makes them think that one type of animal are more important then another?
I also make amazingly delicious veggie food that I have served to self proclaimed “carnivores” and they could not tell the difference between my soy meat and real meat until I told them afterwards. I am also very proud to say that I have turned a lot of people in vegetarians this way!

My fav way to inspire peeps to go veg is to take them to meet my companion animals. 3 goats and 3lovely piggles reside with me and they are darling. After the person says how adorable they are and how they are each unique “even though they’re animals” (their words, not mine) I ask them, “Would you eat Rosie?” They always respond with a horrified “No!” and I go on to tell them all about the horrors in factory farms and labs. First- I tell them the reason of why I became a vegetarian. My reason is that the way they kill animals and treat them is just extremely cruel.
Second- I show them peta videos, and that normally works.
Third- I dont try and force it onto people, I casually bring it up in a conversation.
Fourth- Sometimes I will make a bet to people that they can go a whole week without eating meat. Then they try it and they realize that it actually made them feel better. It also made them go veg.

I love the challenge of persuading people that eating meat isn’t essential by explaining how, as vegans, we still eat the same meals but just substitute ingredients e.g. spag bol with soy mince. It gets rid of the myth that all we do is eat lettuce and drink water! btw, the cow-print ones are awesome ;D

So I love to just be knowledgeable and order healthy vegan food when I’m out and cook delicious dishes when I’m home and offer people to try it. People rarely refuse free food, especially when it looks and smells so good. When they try it and realize that vegan food doesn’t have to mean salad or taste like cardboard they are so surprised. My favourite way to inspire someone to go veg is to show them an example – me! People always assume all vegetarians eat is a salad, but that is so, so wrong. I feel more satisfied after eating a veggie meal with rich, satisfying food that helps me maintain a healthy weight and feel more healthy all around. I feel better about myself because I am saving the lives of a hundred animals every. People remember my words when I mention interesting and surprising facts about animals – pigs are actually smarter than dogs, scientists are trying to officialize dolphins as non-human persons etc. Showing people that being a vegetarian is a positive, life-affirming, and surprisingly easy choice is the best and most successful way of inspiring them to go veg! These are the cutest things ever!

From past experience some people are like, they’re just animals, I don’t care what happens to them, and I am an Environmental Science major. I’ve found a way to integrate my vegetarianism into my ENVS and then make it easier to share with people. I did some research and found the effects of meat production from the birth until it’s on the dinner table and the environmental impacts from that. Then, once I have someone’s attention I bring the animals into it themselves. Once they see the environmental impact it seems my peers are more apt to listen. None of them have completely gone vegetarian, but quite a few of my friends are about half and half, and it’s always a step in the right direction.

inform them, share videos, and prove to them that vegetarian food really DOES taste better! most people i know are afraid to make the commitment b/c they’re afraid that they wont be able to eat good food, but sometimes meat supplements are better! in fact, i bring trail mix (with almonds and cashews raisins, craisins and peanuts) for school lunch and i share with my friends if they promise to go veggie for the day πŸ˜›

I like to be an example of why I chose to be vegan. Many times, people just want someone to be an example a role model. The way you speak, dress, do things, and the way you act to things. Let them know and see how kind you are towards animals. Show them, that animals want the same respect as you. Inform people of the negativity of killing, torturing, abusing animals. Tell them why wearing wool and fur is bad. Showing, Teaching, and being a role model is the best way to go!

It’s a tough one to actually inspire people to go all-out veg, but I try to live by example by staying positive and by offering vegan food as often as I can. Once they try it, they don’t see why they can continue calling veg food bland. Also, I try to have conversations with people who are curious and keep the tone friendly and informative rather than aggressive or condescending.

My favorite way to inform people about going vegetarian or vegan is by sharing meals with them to show being a vegetarian/vegan doesn’t just limit you to fruits and veggies and that there are tons of delicious meals waiting to be made and eaten without the cruelty of slaughtering animals for food.
I also like informing them be it via pamphlet, video or talking to them (And sometimes handing out stickers and buttons) but not in a way that makes them seem like a bad person but in a way to politely inform them about what goes on in the making of their food and clothing.

I inspire people to go veg with constant publishing the evironmentally friendly, animal friendly as well as health benefits. I know alot of friends who want to loose weight, and i explain to them the fats that are contained in meat and milk products. This deffinatly has motivated them to change their diets. Ive used peta and peta2 advertisments to encourage my friends and family. I tell them to go to Peta2.com and check out everything and they’ll learn the reasons why people become vegan & vegetarian. I also give out pamphlets. I even gave my principal a letter asking if the school will have vegetarian and vegan foods. My favourite way to inspire people to go vegan (or just be more vegan than they are at the moment) is cooking and baking for them. Omnivores love my cakes (recently made a yummy tofu cheesecake and a coconut cake for my class; they loved it!) and I’m always very content when they realise my lasagne does taste better than with meat.
I believe it’s a very good way of showing people how lovely being vegan is because the first thing everyone worries about when they hear you’re vegan is ‘but what do you eat?’.
Answering questions and making friends see how animals are abused and used is also something helpful I do every day. A lot of interesting discussions develop from that. πŸ™‚
