February in New York means one thing—Fashion Week. From February 9 to 16, the giants of the fashion world descend upon the island of Manhattan for cocktail parties and couture. As they unveil their fall 2012 collections, designers reveal to the world where they see fashion going for the rest of the year, and everyone from style editors to department store buyers to blog-obsessed fashionistas take note.
With all eyes on New York City, it’s more important than ever to remind consumers and the glitterati that compassion is the ultimate fashion statement. In years past, PETA has stormed the runway to remind designers that if there’s fur in their line, there’s blood on their hands. Conversely, there’s no better time to celebrate cruelty-free designers than during Fashion Week by throwing a soirée in honor of their commitment to animal rights—as PETA did last year for Stella McCartney.
Once again, we’re honored to have Stella McCartney speak up to stop the killing of animals for their skin by promoting her exposé of the leather industry throughout Fashion Week. You can watch Stella McCartney’s runway show live online as well as some of my other favorite fur-free designers, including Betsey Johnson and Ralph Lauren, by visiting The New York Times Fashion & Style site.
