'Imitation Is Life' at Fashion Week
The fashionistas came out in droves on Friday for the start of NYC Fashion Week. The way they flock to Fashion Week events you’d think that each of the attendees walked away with an haute couture freebie at the end of the night. Truth be told I’d flock to Fashion Week too if I could…clothes, parties, celebs…it’s a pretty fabulous gathering until they bring out the corpses that is. PETA was there too, of course, but we weren’t doing what you think we were doing…we were sponsoring the 100% cruelty-free Marc Bouwer show.
The long-time PETA friend, fur foe, and designer to the stars—Paris Hilton, Angelina Jolie, and Mariah Carey to drop just a few names—stopped working with fur years ago after watching a PETA exposé about the fur industry. Marc has since dropped leather from his creations and just recently announced he was no longer working with wool, which made Friday’s show even more special because it was 100% cruelty-free! Over 400 guests, including supermodel Petra Nemcova, Vivica A. Fox, Marlo Thomas—of That Girl fame but you’ll prob. know her better as Rachel’s mom on Friends—and Richard Belzer, a.k.a. Detective Munch from Law & Order: SVU was there too. If it had been Christopher Meloni (Detective Stabler) I would have died. To further hit home the point that no animals were harmed in the making of these clothes, slogans including, “All fur has been simulated to protect the innocent,” “Any similarity to actual animals is purely intentional,” “Beauty lives,” and “Imitation is life” were projected above the runway. Check out the show.
