Interview With This Time Next Year!
Hope everyone had an awesome Thanksvegan as I know I sure did! During the holidays I always find myself catching up on music that I got from friends over the past few months and found an absolute gem that I wanted to share with you! This Time Next Year from Northern California are straight up awesome especially if you dig bands like Set Your Goals or Strike Anywhere, which let’s be honest, who doesn’t? What’s even cooler is that they have a vegetarian member and care about animals! I immediately fired off some interview questions to them because I had to know more. Here is what guitarist Denis Cohen and bassist Tony Allio had to say:
What prompted you to become vegetarian? Were there any bands, books, etc. that influenced your decision?
Growing up going to shows, I always encountered people that practiced the vegetarian and vegan lifestyle. After learning more about the benefits of a non-meat diet and the truth about animal testing I decided that going veg was right for me. Another factor was the music and bands that I listened to who advocated an alternate diet. Denis
What are some of your favorite vegetarian foods?
Some of my favorite places to eat are on the road. I love seeing we have a show in certain cities because then we get to go to our favorite restaurants. Two places in particular are Gianna’s in Philadelphia, PA and the food at the Triple Rock in Minneapolis, MN. Gianna’s has the most amazing vegetarian cheese steak. Triple Rock is an awesome venue in Minneapolis that has an astounding vegan Po Boy that will blow your mind. Denis
Of all of the major animal rights issues (factory farming, dog fighting, animal testing, the fur industry, animals in entertainment, etc.) are there any issues that are particularly close to your heart?
I think factory farming is the number one issue most vegans and vegetarians have a problem with, but really anything that would harm an animal in any way is definitely something that people need to be aware of whether it’s fighting or any kind of abuse. For example, last weekend we saw someone that was clearly intoxicated abusing their pet. It’s really everywhere, and definitely not ok. Tony
If a fan were to approach you with questions about how to get involved with animal rights, what advice would you give him or her?
The first thing I would tell someone interested in animal rights would be to go veg of course if they’re not already, then recommend some websites and resources to get news and recipes and whatnot. Tony
What does This Time Next Year have coming up that we can be looking forward to?
We have a full U.S. tour coming up in January and February with Four Year Strong, The Bled, Strike Anywhere, and Title Fight which we’re really excited for, then some other tours and stuff throughout 2010. Come hang!
