After seeing Lucky Bunny spotlighted in Alternative Press, I reached out to artist and founder Rich DeSimone to talk about the inspiration behind the company. Named after his rescued bunny, Lucky, the brand has grown from producing concert posters for the likes of X and Wilco to releasing series after series of sold-out fine-art prints and foraying into the world of T-shirts and toys. Check out what Rich had to say about animal testing, adopting and caring for bunnies, and how you can make a difference by supporting cruelty-free companies:
After stopping by the Bob Barker Building in Los Angeles, Rich hit the print shop with peta2 in mind. He created a limited run of Lucky Bunny tees exclusively for peta2. All animals are lucky to have me on their side because my heart and soul are intertwined with their well being and happiness. I have made a commitment to do all in my power to take action on behalf of animals. For that reason I am Vegan, I involve myself in political actions on behalf of animals and I take in and care for abused and abandoned domestic rabbits in my home. I currently have 3 beautiful buns that my husband and I care for. We have had as many as 6 in our home at one time. They are our family members and are as spoiled as any only child could ever be. And animals are lucky to have us because some people actually really love to care and love animals. My dog that we adopted 6 months ago was only 6 months old and whoever had her as a baby had just left her on the street. she was found hungry and wandering on the street at 6 months old and she almost lost her life to being put down because no one wanted her. my family fell in love with her face and we got her and now she is spoiled and knows what love is. And one of my 2 pet rabbits was someones pet and they just left him in a field and a shelter took him in and now he is my baby!
Animals cant talk and tell us the need help but it is our job to know that animals are ours to care for and love not hurt. my pets are my babies and i will do anything i can to keep them safe and protected from harms way!

I just started grade 12, and its my dream to graduate with good marks and carry on to college to become a successful veterinary technician, someday i hope to be able to take in abandoned, neglected and abused pets into a No-kill rescue shelter. I love animals, and actually have a job working with reptiles and lemurs. We rescued my cat, and then adopted another from our local humane society, everyone in my family knows im the crazy animal person, Im not afraid to stick up for these innocent creatures, and i get so ashamed of our human species when i hear of these horrible stories of the abuse some animals have to go through.. it sickens me. I could probably rant for hours about all this aha, i think everyone that stands up, and fights for these beautiful creatures deserves to be awarded like this

Yes, I do realise how totally weak an answer that was. Okay, honestly, I don’t think they’re really lucky to have us to fight for them. I’ve always sort of thought we’re the ones who’re lucky to have them to fight for. They help us so much, being so kind, peaceful, brave and loyal.
And really, on factory or fur farms and in vivisection labs, they’re about as far from lucky as you can get. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t need us to fight for them. They have everything taken from them right at birth just because they happen to have fur or feathers or walk on four legs.
We’re lucky because we’re free and have a voice when they don’t, and we have enough strength not to give up or write animals off, unlike some people.

Animals are not the lucky ones in these animal cruelty situations. Yes, they are lucky in the sense that they have all these passionate, selfless, and extremely noble people in the world that are willing to do anything for them no matter the consequences. They are more than fortunate in that sense. However, they are not the privileged ones in my eyes. The people, such as me, who are blessed with enough courage and drive to stand up for these voiceless lives, those are the lucky ones. These animals who are tortured, beaten, neglected, and mistreated daily are not the “lucky” ones just because they have us to stick up for them occasionally. We are the lucky ones to still have them. We are fortunate enough to have voice, and to have the ability to see these animals’ hurt and suffering and the undeniable desire to help them in any way possible. After all, haven’t we’ve taken enough from these animals? The least they deserve is a little gratitude and explanation for why we respect and support them. I mean, they are the reason for why we do what we do!

Animals are lucky to be on my side because I am not afraid to use my voice to speak up for them when they can’t. To me animal rights is an issue that is equivalent to any other problem going on in society. Racism=Speciesim=Sexism. Whenever I go out and people question why I don’t eat meat, I question why they do. Animals are my best friend. Take a dog for an example. A dog is a man’s bestfriend. A companion that is always there for you, through thick and thin. What is the difference between eating a dog and eating a cow? There is none. All animals have feelings, just like you and me. When I hear about animal testing, it breaks my heart knowing that a bunny was forced to smoke, or cosmetics were used on them. There is no reason for that, there’s no reason for hurt, pain, and suffering. Learning about saving animals is literally what I live for now. They’re there for me when no one else is, so now it’s my turn to be there for them.

I suppose you could say that animals are lucky to have me on their side because I volunteer at 3 shelters in my spare time, and I try to inform people (gently) why animal products are bad for them, the environment, and the animals themselves whenever I have an opportunity. I am vegetarian for a Year now and I love to talk to people about it.
I am everything, but what they think about the outward appearance of a veggy guy
I am 1,96m high and not the thin, skinny type they might think of.
I do my best to tell them about what is going on in their loved circusses and zoo’s. I already convinced two of them to try the veggy lifestyle.
Soon I will start my voluntary year of social service and be able to tell youths and kids about the vegetarism and what a little change in our life changes for the lives of animals.
