Meatless Monday Hits the Big Time

The Meatless Monday craze has been seriously buzzin’, and it’s only getting louder!

A recent study by the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future reveals that Sodexo’s—a large food-service provider—Meatless Monday program has become a huge hit in cafeterias across the country.

According to the survey of 245 food-service sites, roughly 49 percent saw an increase in vegetable purchases and about 30 percent reported decreased meat purchases—and that’s just in the one year since the campaign launched!

To add to the excitement, the numbers show that Meatless Monday is more than a trend—it has real staying power. The study reports that by and large the responses and attitudes toward the campaign were positive and that the majority of providers said that they would continue promoting Meatless Monday.

The 2010 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee recommended a “shift in food intake patterns to a more plant-based diet,” and Meatless Monday is an awesome way to start that shift! Thank you, Sodexo, for making a commitment to sustainability and health and offering more and more vegan foods with widespread yum appeal.

Father loves to farm, be self sustainable, loves to read, he's a antiques/vintage auctioneer, art student, and looks like mr. Rogers. My mother is a Montessori teacher and is amazing with children, all about local organic foods, loves gardening, cooking etc. my sister who is nine years older than me was into indie music and introduced me to all sorts of things at a young age. This all rubbed of on me and from that base I grew into similar things. I'm an INFJ
