How To Explain Veganism To Your Parents
Dear Mom and Dad,
You’re probably thinking, “What the hell is that, and how is it pronounced?”
Say it with me: VEGAN. No, not vaygun. VEGAN.
I know, I know, why would I go vegan?
Well, billions of animals are tortured and killed for food in the U.S. each year, and the best way to help these animals is by not eating them. I mean, c’mon! Just look at these cuties. How could anyone be OK with eating them?
And here it comes … one … two … three … the protein question!
Guess what, Mom and Pops? Every plant-based whole food—including nuts, seeds, and beans—contains protein.
Yeah, I’m not drinking milk, either.
Why? Well, for starters, it’s basically like drinking breast milk (only that it comes from cows), and I think I’m a little too old for that. Also, many cows on factory farms are forcibly impregnated, have their horns painfully burned or cut out of their heads, and are often killed before they turn 6 years old!
On top of that, dairy products are loaded with artery-clogging saturated fat and cholesterol—you don’t want me drinking that, do you?
Oh, and eggs are actually super-gross.
Egg-laying is the result of chickens’ ovulation cycles, which basically makes eggs chicken periods!
No, my life is not going to change drastically …
… but the lives of some animals will. 🙂 A vegan, on average, saves more than 100 animals every year!
Keep calm, Dad. I promise it won’t cost any more money—it might even be cheaper!
Beans, rice, potatoes, and veggies are all some of the cheapest, easiest to find, and healthiest foods that you can possibly eat.
Going out to eat won’t be a hassle. Most restaurants already offer a ton of vegan options.
Denny’s, Johnny Rockets, Chipotle, Taco Bell, and P.F. Chang’s are just a few!
Plus, there’s a ton of delicious food that I can make at home!
And I’m not the only one doing this—athletes, football players, actors, and even a former president have all made the compassionate decision to leave animals off their plates.
Some famous animal lovers:
Congratulations! You made it to the end of this post, which means that you now understand what being vegan means. Now it’s time for YOU to go vegan.
