Hurray! Showing some major love for bunnies and other animals tortured in product tests, hair-care giant John Paul Mitchell Systems has decided to stop selling in China rather than having any of its products tested on animals. Paul Mitchell, whose products have always been cruelty-free, had not yet been required to test its products on animals and is the first cruelty-free company to pull out of the Chinese market in order to prevent such cruel tests from occurring.
Because Paul Mitchell decided that protecting animals is more important than growing its profits, PETA is presenting the company with a well-deserved Courage in Commerce Award.
PETA is funding scientists who are working with Chinese officials to accept non-animal tests—the first of which should be approved soon. Remember always to check peta2′s list of cruelty-free companies to make sure that your money isn’t going toward animal tests—no matter where in the world they are being conducted.
