This is pretty neat—Cincinnati-based advertising and Web agency Ideopia created a new Flash game called “Catstration” that exposes just how bad the companion animal overpopulation crisis really is. As they say on their site, Ideopia came up with the game to reach “the big breeders of the world … The people who own animals, and don’t understand the importance of spaying and neutering.” It’s always refreshing to see companies that actually care about helping animals!

Before you point it out, let me say that I know this game doesn’t accurately represent spaying and neutering (seeing as the cats in the game have their balls removed by a cleaver-wielding carny), but it addresses a very important issue nonetheless. The fact is that millions of animals must be euthanized each year because of dog and cat overpopulation. Just one unaltered female cat and her offspring can produce an estimated 420,000 cats in only seven years. In six years, a female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies.

Bravo Ideopia for putting on your creative pants and coming up with a game with a message. Everyone should listen to Bob Barker: get your companion animals spayed and neutered!
