I’m not saying I’m a cynic, but sometimes taking a look around and see all of the cruelty and destruction around us makes it’s easy to think that things will never change. Take for example the recent investigation into a Tyson Foods chicken processing plant in Heflin, Alabama, where fully conscious animals are mutilated, scalded to death, and have their heads ripped off. Every once in a while, though, something amazing happens and it reminds me that the work we do makes every difference for animals. This article gave me a big smile today:
Judges fines Ringling lawyers $50K, payable to plaintiff PETA
McLEAN, Va. — A Fairfax County judge sanctioned six lawyers representing the owners of the Ringling Bros. circus and ordered them to pay $51,000 in fines to the animal-rights group People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals for contempt of court and other violations.
PETA sued Vienna, Va.-based Feld Entertainment–which produces the Ringling circus, the defunct Siegfried and Roy show in Las Vegas, Disney on Ice and other well-known shows–more than four years ago, claiming that Feld ran an extensive corporate espionage campaign against it and other animal-rights groups. Feld went so far as to pay millions of dollars to a former top CIA operative, Clair George, to help run its spy operation, according to PETA.
While I’m on this “woo-hoo, be positive” kick, let me say that Louise Burns from Lillix is friggin’ amazing.
