Ladies, what is your favorite way to help animals? Maybe you went vegan or got your school to offer non-animal alternatives to dissection. Do you volunteer at your local animal shelter to help homeless animals get adopted? Maybe you protested when the circus came to town or got your aunt to give up her fur coat. However you show your love, this crop top is for you!

PETA "Ethical" crop top

Brand-spanking-new for the summer, this rockin’ “Ethical” Crop Top tells everyone where you stand on animal rights. Even better, it gives them the chance to ask you about it and start a conversation about how they can start making ethical choices, too!

For your chance to win this “Ethical” Crop Top, tell us below how you first got involved in animal rights.*

Good luck!

*The winner will be chosen at random from submitted animal-friendly comments in which the commenter tells us how they became interested in animal rights. Entries must be received by July 17, 2012. The winner will be chosen at random and notified on July 19, 2012.

Heads up! By commenting here, you’re acknowledging that you’ve read and you agree to our contest terms and conditions and our privacy policy, and you’re also agreeing to our collection, storage, use, and disclosure of your personal info in accordance with those policies as well as to receiving e-mails from us.

Also, i know this was already drawn to a close. But i would just love to say, when i was 6 years old i told myself, that when i grew up i would become a veterinarian so i could save all the sick animals. Since then it has just grew and changed and now i am nearly finished school, still wanting to be a vet, 100% vegan, dog foster carer, animal crazy.

I know this contest’s already ended, but I got involved because in the 5th grade (I’m going into freshman year of high school), I became vegetarian without even really knowing all the abuse that went on, and how bad on the environment it was. Then through vegetarianism, I learned about all the abuse, and started speaking up for animals. It seems a little backwards to me, because I think most people are activists then vegetarians lol.

I mainly got involved with animal rights because of my sister.
When I was little she became a vegan, and that’s when I started to realize
that what I was eating was not right.
Now I know that we don’t have the right to inflict pain onto another being,
nor do we have the right to deprive them of their life.
I love my dog and I can”t imagine eating him, so why should other animals be any different?

I first got involved with animal rights after learning what really goes on in factory farming and other animal industries. I couldn’t believe some of the things I read about and saw. I had always loved helping out at my local APL, and after learning some of the things I did, I couldn’t see the difference between the animals at my APL and the ones that were on my plate. At that point, I went vegetarian and quit using anything made from wool or leather. I also starting passing out pamphlets and stickers that I got from peta. I love animals and plan on continuing to do anything I can to help them out <3

I first got involved when i made the connection that there is really no good reason for eating meat, we as humans simply enjoy the taste, but i made the choice of not killing animals simply for taste. I then found some awesome websites and this was one of them!! I love animals and try to help them in any way possible <3

I first got involved in animal rights when a friend showed me “meet your meat” a few years back. I was so disturbed by the video that I couldn’t even think about eating meat again. It was utterly revolting to me. I couldn’t stand to be a part of the cause of such animal cruelty, so I decided to try vegetarianism. I’m now in the progress of transitioning to a vegan lifestyle. I would do anything to help the animals. After all, cows and chickens are no different than my cats and dogs; they have the capacity to feel and deserve to be treated fairly.

Awhile back I was searching around on youtube and found a video of NeverShoutNever’s Christofer Drew talking on a video called “Meet Your Meat” I watched it, figuring it wouldn’t be that bad. About half way through I was disgusted and couldn’t finish watching.Since then I have devoted myself to helping animals and continue to get more involved everyday!

In my kinesiology class, we learned about muscles and the different types of muscles. My teacher later compared these types of muscles to that of turkey, and explained why certain parts were dark and light meat. This got me to start thinking about different animals, and how disturbing it is to eat living beings. After doing research on the topic, I started discussing my findings with family and friends now that I was more capable of vocalizing my ideals. From there I joined peta2 and have been doing everything I can for animals.

There’s never been a point where my daily life did not involve working to better the lives of animals.

I have converted at least 10 of my friends to vegetarian, and now I am always checking my make up products and my food etc. Its almost a habit now. Hahaha. I’m well known around my estate and town for sticking stickers on windows, and posters in shops. The ‘Vegan-Life’ is now also a well debated topic in my debating class. :)

I never got into animal rights. I was BORN into them. I grew up in a house where I was taught from birth that animals are equal, and they deserve just as much love and respect as their human counterparts. My parents weren’t vegan/vegetarian, and one night when we were eating dinner (I was about 3) we were having chicken. I asked my mom, “Is this the kind of chicken that is our friend, or is this the kind we eat?” My mom told me the truth. I started to hate meat. As I got older I really started to protest. I never bought anything made with animal products or anything that was tested on them. In March 2012 I made the biggest decision of my life and that was the decision to save others’ lives- by going vegan. I couldn’t be happier and I’ll always stay loud :)

I first got interested in animal rights when i seen the behind glass walls exhibit in D.C. I first got actually involved when I had to make a presentation in one of my classes, US history, about rights of others. Almost everyone else did native americans, women, blacks, asians, and all the minorities. I decided to do mine on animals, and I wrote a ten page paper to present to the class, pulled up youtube videos that described animal abuse and testing, and handed out leaflets that I had gotten from peta to my class. This started my passion for all animals and their treatment in the world.

We try to live as simple as possible so all the money that left we can donate. So thanks to my mom i live a wonderful life <3

Of course back then I really didn’t know a thing about living a cruelty free lifestyle, the most I could do was order my salad at mcdonalds with no chicken. & I remember my first run in with rice milk and then I gave up. I got back into animal rights about 2 years ago and I haven’t looked back. Most rewarding life experience thus far.

Peta was the first animal rights group that I found, and I fell in love with the things you guys were doing. I went vegan a week later. Unfortunately, financial troubles have forced me into vegetarianism once more, but I’m in the process of switching back to vegan. I don’t think anything should suffer for my sustenance.

I remember when i was 4 My brother had told me that burgers were made from cows and i wouldn’t believe him and when my mom told me it was true i was so mad and didn’t eat meat for two weeks. I was devastated. I have just recently stopped eating meat again an hopefully this is a permanent outcome. I’ve always cared for the smallest creatures including bugs. I cant smash them. i consider their lives just as important as mine. I respect other creatures lives and wouldn’t ever consider killing something for fun. I’ve always helped animals in need and have rescued quit a few animals in my life i feel like its my job to help out something in need. I support PETA all the way. Something has to change in order for this planet to get better.

It all started when i saw this little cat get thrown across her yard, and she died. I got online to see who could help, and i found you guys: The Peta2 crew. so i called the police, and they didnt do anything. i looked on the site, and i found out ways i could help the little kitty by putting up posters around the neighborhood to help out with the cause: Help Save The Abused Animals!!

I’ve always loved animals, and when my own dog died from strangulation from being left on the runner line on a hot day, i broke down. I knew i had to do more. so i have been helping the neighborhood with the dogs ever since. My mom says im still too young to volunteer at a shelter, but when i get old enough, my resume/ applicaiton is going right in!!!

I first got involved with animal rights in 7th grade. We had to write a persuasive essay in English about a controversial topic, and when I couldn’t think of anything, my teacher recommended I write about animal testing. Prior to this project, I thought animal testing was only about washing the animals with shampoo and things like that. I had no idea how horrid it really was. After completely my essay, I swore off any products that weren’t cruelty free, and my animal rights path continued from there.

I started to talking with a childhood friend I hadn’t seen in ages and he talked about how much he enjoyed going shooting. It was at that point when I was trying to explain why it was wrong to kill for sport that I realized I needed to to change my ways. Since then it has been the vegan life for me!

I got involved in animal rights about 2 years ago when one of my good friends showed me the peta2 website. At first I didn’t even really pay attention to what it was for. But as time passed I became more interested in it. And I had already stopped eating meat products 6 years before:) So all along I’ve had a passion for animals especially my doggies:) But I really went into action recently and I hope to make an imorint on this Earth:)

I’ve always loved animals and nature, since a little age…But what really got me involved with standing up for animal rights, is during warped tour last summer. A few girls asked me to sign a petition, and I agreed thinking that I would just get to walk away with a few free stickers. Then it clicked, and I realized that I should truly get involved…and I was inspired by those girls’ strength to stand at an outdoor concert, advocating for animal rights. I’m so thankful for that day. :) Great music, and great passion for change.

Im pretty much a junior when it comes to animal rights. I just started his year and only because i saw how animals in meat farms and even in my own community were being treated. Right now i am workin on becoming a vegitarian and then after that a vegan. Its pretty hard right now since my faily are meat eaters and so i rreally dont have any support. Im hoping i can go to an animal rights protest this month. I will continue to try animals in any way, shape, or form

I’ve always had a love for animals, but unfortunately did not become vegetarian or get involved in animal rights until I was twelve after I spent a week with my veg Aunt & Uncle. After playing around on the PETA site & others I was so horrified and knew I would never eat meat again. In addition, I made it my mission to raise awarness for all the beautiful animals being mistreated & for the abuse going on in factory farms. I’ve converted some friends into going vegetarian & I’m ALWAYS informing others on how wrong animal testing, fur/feathers for fashion, meat eating, and animal cruelty is. Haha I even came up with a cute phrase I say whenever I see someone wearing fur, leather, etc ‘Cool but Cruel’

I always loved animals very much, ever since I was born, and I wanted to become a vet when I was in high school. Unforunately, I was sooooo bad at maths that there was no way I could study science (though I was good at biology). It was really painful for me when I understood I could never take care of animals as a vet, so I thought I should do anything I could in my own way to help them. I have always been trying ever since to make it up to animals for not being able to help them in a medical way.
Even when I was little I wanted to help them : I was 3 or 4 when I put worms in my bed to keep them warm… Fortunately my mother put them outside back soon enough xD

I got involved in animal rights about four years ago. Someone at my public school (at the time) showed a video about animal cruelty and it disgusted me. I couldn’t believe that animals were being harmed for our everyday materials like bedding, cosmetics, and even clothing! I ended up going home that night and crying while I re-lived that video over and over. I decided I would do something to stop it, so I became a strict vegetarian (I would have gone vegan, but my family are strict meat-eaters so vegetarian is unfortunately the best I can do until I can buy my own groceries). I decided that to help, by not only giving up meat for good, I would give up leather, animal tested-products (like some of my cosmetics and body butters), and I even encouraged my science teacher last year to give us an alternative to dissection. I handed out a bunch of “Cut Class Not Frogs” stickers and leaflets at school, and they were really popular! People loved them! Since then, I’ve been giving out leaflets and stickers and continue to fight for animal rights! <3

I’ve always been an animal lover, ever since i knew what they were. The way i got involved was, a couple years ago I was shown some videos on how they make fur coats during class, and i was just completely horrified. it made me sick to my stomach and i started to cry. I thought to myself how could anyone do that to a sweet adorable animal? After that video, the class was shown another about cows for their meat. The cows were being endlessly abused so that they’d walk staright in the slaughter house. That’s just completely horrifying. Last year, i was watching keeping up with the kardashians, and Khloe Kardashian was posing for id rather go naked then wear fur. I found that it is an amazing campaign. Also there was more shows, and there was one show that had this woman supporting peta, and another woman said she had no problem wearing furs as long as she had no blood on her. Selfish. Now I joined peta last night and I hope that I can make a difference! I try to constantly teach people about their surroundings <3

I first got involved a little more than a year ago, when I had to write a research paper on something I was passionate about. The first thing that came to mind was how passionate I am about animals. I went on the PETA website to get information. I can’t tell you how many times I cried when writing that research paper. At one point I started crying in the computer lab at school when I watched a PETA video on animal experimentation. Everyday I’m surprised that I’m not a vegetarian. I wish I could be but I have a disease called active hypoglycemia. I have to eat protein every 3-4 hours everyday to avoid symptoms. I am currently trying to figure out ways to receive protein and be a vegetarian at the same time.

I first got involved when my cousin was becoming a Veterinarian. She also helps strays and when i went over to her house she had a new dog which was a pitbull. She told me the dog had its tongue cut out by its last owner. I felt so bad for it people think pitbulls are so vicious when they really aren’t. It was one of the sweetest dogs i met and that’s when i got involved in animal rights so other animals don’t have to suffer and be abused.

About a few months after I watched the video, I became active with Peta2 and a strict vegetarian. <3

I have paid vet bills for hurt strays or wild animals that would otherwise die, and I always take in strays to give them food, water and shelter. I have campaigned at my school about vegetarianism and ending slaughter. I have been trying for years to keep my friends out of fast food restaurants, and I always try to educate people on the importance and beauty of all animals and their lives.

I gave up my leather boots. Any item that is tested on animals I don’t use. Anywhere I go I try to hand out stickers and leaflets. I have saved a dog from near death at my ex-stepdad’s house. I pay for most of the care of my dog and the dog I saved. I don’t eat meat, and it’s going to stay like that. I have gotten my boyfriend thinking about being a vegetarian. I have tried with many many people, most I don’t succeed. Some I do though. I love animals, and if my parents would let me I would foster animals from the shelter. Thats another thing, I volunteer there! :)

I first got involved after watching a movie called food inc.,it was at that exact momet i became a vegan and went online to see how i could help be a part of a greater cause! when i saw peta, i was so happy becuase it was free and it makes a big difference! i was happy to be a part of the cause and now i go on this website every day and sign up for more things to do! it means so much to me to help make a difference because you might not be able to change the entire wolrd but you sure can make a dent!i want to show my future children a better tomorrow where the slaughtering of innocent animals is a crime and i want to rattle the doors of the white house until they open them up and accept the fact that i am here and i stand for justice! from that day i saw that movie to now,i have grown to be a better person and activist and PETA has been the best help i could get,as for now, i intend to continue my quest to a better and healthier tomorrow and try to be the better and healthier me i want to be today!i dent may just be a start but if you take 30 dents or 40 dents from changers and believers then you create the difference you want to see in the world,it takes one domino to collapse an entire line of dominoes,i plan to be that first one,so that is my story, thanks peta for all your support! ^_^

The way I first got involved is kind of funny. When my boyfriend and I first started dating (4 years ago) I went to his house for the first time and got to see his room. Of course being a teenage boy he had half-naked posters of women covering the walls, and they were mostly of Pamela Anderson. At the time I honestly knew nothing about her but I wanted to know if there was anything more to her then her looks that interested my boyfriend. So I decided to do some research and came across how she was majorly involved with PETA. Not ever hearing of that before either I looked more into it and fell in love with the whole idea of it. Since then I have devoted myself to helping animals and continue to get more involved everyday!

I was always aware of vegetarianism and veganism but I never really thought I would be one to try it until about two years ago! I always had this friend as a very little kid who was a vegetarian by choice! his little 7 year old boy wanted to be a vegetarian and I thought that was cool. I got in touch with him quite a few years after that and I started really looking into it! I admit I was an off and on vegetarian for about three years, but now.. Im getting back on the wagon for good! I am now a vegetarian and am working on my way to vegan! I love this website and I want to take part in peta2 in every single way possible! I have even told my firends about peta2, showed them videos, and am going at it full force! I have volunteered at animal shelters, handed out stickers & fliers, and even told my friends about animal awareness and have turned a few into vegetarians! & Im very proud of them and myself.

I don’t think it was long after that I decided that I wanted to change how other people thought about animals and food. I started talking to people on my own, researching things – watching videos. Eventually I joined the peta2 street team, and here I am today. ^.^

I decided to go veg when I came to the realization that animals are capable of thought, just like humans! I learned that we can have a greater impact on our environment and others just by doing simple things like changing our diets, and being more cautious when we go shopping. It’s amazing how much we as consumers can have on large chain companies. I’m so glad I learned about animal rights, it really has changed my life for the better.

OKAY, SO JUST TO LET EVERYBODY KNOW I’M A GUY, BUT I WOULD LOVE TO GET MY MOM THIS SHIRT ! I GOT INVOLVED INTO ANIMAL RIGHTS WHEN I WAS ABOUT 6 ! CRAZY RIGHT ? WELL, I GREW UP IN A BAD NEIGHBORHOOD, AND ALWAYS HEARD SOME GANG MEMBERS TALKNG ABOUT, ” OH, ARE YOU GOING TO THE DOG FIGHT?’ I KNEW THIS WAS WRONG FROM THE MOMENT I STARTED MY RESEARCH ON HOW I CAN HELP ANIMALS ! I WAS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR A PROGRAM THAT I CAN JOIN TO END ANIMAL CRUELTY, BUT UNTIL LAST YEAR WHEN I WAS 12, I FOUND PETA2 ! WHEN I GROW UP, I KNOW 100% THAT I AM GOING TO BE THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WHERE I WILL PASS LAWS TO GIVE MORE SEVERE CONSEQUENCES TO ANIMAL ABUSERS, AND DONATE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS EVERY YEAR TO ANIMAL FOUNDATIONS, PETA2, AND ANIMAL POUNDS SO ANIMALS CAN HAVE BETTER LIVES !

It seemed unreal, too graphic, it freaked me the hell out. Also, it made me realize how some people take advadage of sweet animals just because they can’t talk back. I got influenced to speak up for any animal who needed it, to fight against insesitive methods, and try influencing others too. I also switched to a vegetarian lifestyle.

I gave up my leather coat, belts, and wallets. Any products that were tested on animals has been thrown out of my house. I did all of this after I had done a research project on animal abuse in my speech class. PETA was my reference source most of the time, so that’s how I really found out about PETA. After I presented that project to my class, I felt great. I felt like I made an impact on the kids in my class. That feeling inspired me to get involved for real with PETA. Now my life is pretty close to vegan. I still consume dairy, but that’s about as bad as it gets. I love animals and I am willing to do what ever it takes to help save them. (:

I’ve been an animal activist since I was a little girl. I use to steal chickens and turkey from the kitchen telling my parents not to eat them. I used to have little funerals and dig little holes for eggs. As I got older it was all based on the fact that they are also animals and deserve life but I didn’t actually start seeing/researching online until middle school. I had always had issues eating meat but after seeing everything online and learning all the facts I decided that I had to go vegetarian now except this time my parents weren’t going to use the excuse that I was too young or that I didn’t fully understand. So I went vegetarian and started a crazy animal rights dedicated life. This all started with just really loving all animals and I’ve just always been better with other animals than humans. :)

And this lady started telling me all these facts about how people test almost everything on animals. From then on I pledged to be a vegetarian and to be very much against animal cruelty. :)

I became a full-fledged activist when I decided that being vegan wasn’t enough. I was doing a bit, but not nearly enough to make me feel useful and to make a real difference to all animals. I started ordering leaflets and handing them out wherever I could. I held bake sales, bought AR promoting tshirts, and finally organized my first protest last year at the annual rodeo. I’ve never been happier than I am being an activist.

After that I looked at everything involving animals completly diffrent, i quit meat cold turkey that day, <3

I got involved in animal rights because of my civics teacher who is a republican and because of Christofer Drew. My teacger doesn’t support peta or what they stand for and christofer drew had a PETA table at his concert and two days later I made the decision to become a vegetarian. I like to volunteer at my animal shelter and take dogs for walks and do what I can. I refused to dissect a frog in my biology class. I try and help any animal out on the streets and I look out for any animal that I think is not being treated the way they should be. I hope to be a vet one day and be able to help all kinds of animals. I like being vegetarian. I know what’s going in my body and I love helping animals and giving them a voice so they don’t suffer.

I’ve been animal friendly for as long as I remember… My mom raised me to be kind to animals and treat them as I would wanted to be treated myself. We ate free range eggs and chickens, bought animal cruelty free products, and a few years ago I went vegetarian. As of now, I’m trying to go vegan. So I guess I started being interested in animal rights cause I was raised by a mom who taught me.to do so….

it’s a really unique story. I have a youtube account and I wanted my channel to have a picture of animal fur as the background so i searched “fur” the third option down was: A Shocking Look Inside Chinese Fur Farms | PETA.org. I watched half of the video because I was unable to watch all of the horror. I immediately got to work on trying to stop this crap that the Chinese think they can do to the animals. Every since that day I’ve been signing petitions, spreading the word, changing minds, and my best decision ever; joining PETA! :)

The way that I first got involved in animal rights was by following my dad’s example and becoming a vegetarian, I also read up on some awful foreign attrocities that were currently occuring to animals, such as the way that a defenseless bear was tied to a pole and attacked by savage dogs while a crowd of people sat and watched in amusement, when I heard about all these disturbing problems of the world I decided to at least attempt to make earth a safer place for animals.

My friend introduced me to peta2 by making me aware of some of the animal cruelty taking place that I was not already aware of such as the brutality of factories and provided me with more information on issues such as the fur industry which I was already avidly boycotting and raising awareness for

The first step was reading about animal abuse , esp in the meat industry and the way it was unsanitary. Then I became vegetarian. I went to warp tour and learned about peta2 and joined the street team. 😀 Then I started doing online actions… then attending any protests nearby, volunteering with warp tour, and then educating others. I’m even going to the Ringling Bros protest in LA tomorrow >:L So maybe they’ll stop coming to town! OR any town that is unless they stop thier use of animals for “entertainment”

The first time I spoke up for animals was when I educated my family and friends about how healthy and humane it is to be a vegetarian. I was 15 years old when I started speaking up. Ever since then, I joined PETA2 and I have done a few protests, sent countless emails to support animal rights, and even became vegan. Every single cat that I’ve had, has been a rescue. I have fostered and rescued cats from the street and take care of them. One time, I was at the local outlets and my mother wanted to buy a Coach purse. I was wearing these shoes that she hated so I made a deal with her, “If you promise not to buy the purse, I will throw my shoes right now”, I told her. Well, I had to walk around for the next hour shoeless and the walk to the car was not the greatest ever, but it was worth it. I take my beliefs seriously, and I love speaking up for those who cannot.

I started looking for more resources on animal welfare – and found PETA, peta2, and Care2 online. From there, I started learning how to be an activist, became a vegetarian, and the rest is history. :)

I first got involved in animal rights when I was searching up stuff on rats (because I have pet rats) and I came upon a PETA page talking about rats and mice. I then looked at other causes on the website and was given many ways in which I could get involved. :)

I’ve always been interested in animal rights as long as I can remember; ever since I was little, I remember loving animals and wanting to make sure they were treated right. The first time I did a lemonade stand, I donated my money to the Humane Society
