Drum roll please. [Insert mad cheering, and FYI, this cheering is going to last until the end.] Here are the winners of peta2′s Most Vegan-Friendly College Contest for 2011:
In the category of large U.S. schools, the University of California–Santa Cruz took first place, followed by the University of Florida, the University of California–Irvine, Ohio University, the University of California–Los Angeles, Cornell University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Illinois, the University of California–Berkeley, and the University of Colorado–Boulder, with honorable mentions going to the University of North Texas and the University of Pennsylvania.

In the small-schools category, Northwestern University came out on top, followed by Brandeis University, Georgetown University, Brown University, Bennington College, the University of Rochester, the University of Puget Sound, Bradley University, Wesleyan University, and American University, with honorable mentions going to Oberlin College, Bastyr University, and Rhode Island School of Design.

Whew, what a list of awesomeness!
This was our toughest competition yet, with so many amazing yumz like vegan Mexican tofu Benedict, country-fried seitan steak with vegan mashed potatoes, tofu French toast, and vegan pumpkin cheesecake.
Are you lost on a campus in which such food is only a drool-filled daydream? If so, bring on the “Veganize Your Cafeteria” campaign! We want to see your school in our list next year!
[Cheering stays strong for several minutes and then slowly fades out.]

The University of New Hampshire also has vegan stations at all dining halls – would loved to have known about the contest so we could have participated!
