Rocker Tony Kanal Speaks Up for Marine Animals in Captivity

Rocker Tony Kanal has sent a letter to Ripley Entertainment—speaking up for marine animals in captivity—regarding Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, which is being constructed in Toronto.

Tony is urging Ripley Entertainment to consider the sound sensitivity that affects many marine mammals in captivity, including whales and dolphins. Because their communication is shaped by sonar, loud noise is utterly torturous to these animals. YOU may think an aquarium environment isn’t that loud, but pounding vibrations from crowds and music bounce off the tank walls and cause animals severe stress and, in extreme cases, death.

Tony writes:

As a musician, the effect of sound on all living beings is something with which I am very familiar. Responsible policies on this issue could aid in addressing a local public already concerned about animal welfare issues at nearby Marineland.

There has been a lot of discussion going on about marine animals in aquariums lately because of the Georgia Aquarium’s hosting private parties with blaring music near the tanks that hold these animals. Ripley’s Aquarium officials have responded to Tony’s letter, saying that they are sensitive to the sound issue. They have assured us that they will not have marine mammals at their aquarium.

No animal should ever have to live in captivity, and we’re here to do all that we can to keep animals safe and happy! Thank you, Tony, for speaking out!

Father loves to farm, be self sustainable, loves to read, he's a antiques/vintage auctioneer, art student, and looks like mr. Rogers. My mother is a Montessori teacher and is amazing with children, all about local organic foods, loves gardening, cooking etc. my sister who is nine years older than me was into indie music and introduced me to all sorts of things at a young age. This all rubbed of on me and from that base I grew into similar things. I'm an INFJ

I want to get into marketing but not have to rely on people which have different morals and worldviews than I do to hire me. While I'm figuring this out, I want to show everyone what I believe in and spur them into action against injustices.
