Stephanie “Mad Dog” Maddux is not your average tour crew member. After almost a year and a half of consecutive touring, Steph was the first to complete all three peta2 tours—the campus outreach tour, Warped Tour (the ultimate concert tour), and the “Glass Walls” exhibit tour.
Steph completed two seasons of the campus outreach tour, petitioning at universities across the U.S. and Canada and helping students with their campaigns to get more vegan options in their dining halls.
Warped Tour is by far the most intensive concert tour that peta2 has to offer—and it’s also the most fun! Steph showed thousands of kids the absurd world of animal abuse through our “WTF?!” exhibit all summer and toured in a bus alongside animal-friendly bands, including Tonight Alive, The Summer Set, and Real Friends.
Paul McCartney famously said, “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian,” and Steph famously said, “I’ll do that tour, too!” With the assistance of our interactive factory-farming exhibit, Steph spent months on college quads throughout the U.S. speaking up for animals used for food and providing students with all the information and inspiration that they needed to go vegan.
After touring, Steph took a celebratory trip to Disneyland, but it wasn’t until she volunteered to table a Never Shout Never show for peta2 in Springfield, Missouri, a month later that she learned that it really is a “small world after all.” While tabling, she talked to someone who went vegan after attending Warped Tour in San Antonio and visiting peta2′s “WTF?!” exhibit, where Steph was working!
Steph’s tour legacy is one filled with dedicated activism, delirious late-night hotel room laughter, and the best vegan doughnuts from across the country. We commend her for being a true road warrior, a hero for animals, and an inspiration for every tour crew member, activist, and student in debt.
