Vegans Get Married At KFC?

I know it’s a little strange for most of you to imagine that people got married at a KFC. Then add to that the fact that vegans got married at KFC, and you’ve definitely got some explaining to do! After all, one might ask, “Isn’t KFC notorious for selling meat?”

As it turns out, some very well-intentioned and dedicated individuals decided to celebrate their love for each other, as well as their dedication to animal rights by getting married at a KFC in Canada because of a groundbreaking campaign victory just a few months ago.

Most KFCs in Canada have added a vegan chicken item to the menu, and the company that coordinates the purchase of all chickens killed for Canadian KFCs has committed to ensuring the phase-in of the least cruel form of slaughter, controlled-atmosphere killing (CAK), improving audits into KFC suppliers in Canada and forming an animal welfare advisory board to oversee the many changes that will be made. Read all about it and what you can do to pressure KFCs outside of Canada to make changes to reduce the suffering for animals here.

So while we’re not quite at the stage where KFC anywhere is offering vegan wedding cakes and other tasty vegan treats (those were imported for this event), it’s a definite step in the right direction to have mainstream vegan options at this fast-food restaurant’s locations all over Canada. And we totally love the fact that two hardcore vegan animal rights activists would use such a significant opportunity to highlight one of the biggest steps forward for animals suffering on factory farms and slaughterhouses.

P.S.- If you are in Canada and haven’t tried the vegan sandwich yet, I’d say it’s worth a try.

I can understand not making the demands incredibly ridiculous (like, making the vegan chicken in a seperate room or something), but using different oil is NOT expensive NOR difficult. If PETA offered to supply 1 KFC per province in Canada with a different deepfrier (and I have donated to PETA, as well as my friends, as well as MILLIONS of people, so don’t say that you don’t have a lot of donations! (although you do give out great free resources, thank you so much for the free vegetarian pack!)), that would really help!
It’s not vegetarian if it has meat juices inside and out of it, never mind vegan!!

    Hey Pulin,
Asking a company that you promote to cook the food separately is very different from an individual waltzing in and demanding that the teenager behind the counter do your bidding. I don’t know what peta’s relationship with KFC is, but from all this publicity stuff it seems like you’re BFF. Why can’t you be like, “Hey, ya know, why don’t you make the vegan sandwich actually vegan?” It’s pointless to have it if no one will even eat it because it isn’t vegan. And it’s just downright mean and rude for peta to ask that vegans eat something that isn’t vegan. No thanks! I simply can’t and won’t eat food that is cooked in dead chicken grease and it’s disingenuous of you to suggest that it’s too much of peta to ask. If you’re going to focus so much attention on this KFC stuff, at least go all the way. You stopped just before the finish line and are expecting some sort of ticker tape parade. Use your influence to get a vegan sandwich out of KFC, just as you’ve been publicizing that you already have done.
    Thanks for listening,
    Isa

i like that they put some effort into peta’s demands, but still, giving money to a company that slaughters animals in any way is kind of a odd situation with this whole KFC thing.
its like, give em credit for trying, but its still giving them business.
    know what im saying?

    I totally agree with Pulin.
If all vegetarians were like that then in the places where we are trying to get vegetarin and vegan items.. it just wouldnt happen. Not to mention that just putting the company through more trouble than we already have. It’s not like just because it was cooked in the same oil that your eating the chicken which they killed to make the other products. Its abit gross. But I would still eat it.

We understand that many people find the idea of consuming even trace amounts of animal products to be gross, but our primary focus is on preventing harm to animals. Eating something that has been cooked in the same oil in which chicken flesh has also been cooked doesn’t cause any harm to animals—and deciding not to get that sandwich won’t prevent the chicken from being ordered, cooked, and eaten anyway.
However, by insisting that these vegan options be cooked separately, we run the risk of making vegetarianism/veganism appear to be difficult, unpleasant, or outright annoying, which will likely turn off others from even considering adopting a vegetarian diet—and that does harm animals.
It will also be damaging if the new sandwich doesn’t sell well. When a vegetarian product fails in the marketplace, it not only reduces the options available to vegetarians (making it harder—and therefore more unlikely—for people to adopt a cruelty-free diet) but also provides companies like KFC with an excuse to avoid adding vegetarian foods to their menus.
Each of us must decide for ourselves the best ways to fulfill our moral and ethical obligations. We respect your decision and appreciate your support for animal rights, but we encourage you to give some thought to our perspective. wooow, when I first read that i’m like, “WHAAAAT?!?!” I wish the KFC here sold vegan chicken! :/ All they sell here in AZ is “½ off on our new ‘Murder ina Bucket(extra blood not included)'” and “Try own new ‘Torture the Chick’ chick sandwhich! We slaughtered it as painful as we could, with electric tazers, won’t that put a shocker in you mouth? YUM!” You know, I guess there IS a brightside to everything!…then that means…ANTHONY YOU OWE ME 5 DOLLARS!! ~ Baggio (Pro Activist-in-Training)

I heard that the ‘vegan chicken’ isn’t vegan because it’s fried where chicken is fried.
