peta2 Street Team Coordinator + lover of vegan food, cats, animal rights, Dawson's Creek, and Harry Potter.
Hello! My name is Nina, and I am a musician-in-training, and I play 7 instruments. I am a liberal, an LGBT activist, avid reader, composer, singer, and poi spinner. I am vegan, and a strong supporter of animal rights.
I was born in Canada and love peta2. I table every month and meet new people:older and younger. I love music and play the recorder. I'm a 6 year spelling bee champion. Again I love peta2!
I have always lived in Los Angeles but my family and I went to Mexico for my parents wedding. So we came back to LA. I don't like LA but were here already what can I do unless I move out and find my own housing. I have always liked animals and it was til I was like about 14 when I learned about tests they do on animals and I began to explore animal cruelty because I was interested it in it. I have watched videos that just broke my heart so that's why today I'm doing all I can to not buy anything that has harmed an animal and I'm vegetarian .
I'm tall, I love sewing, fashion and the environment, also I'm vegetarian (wannabe vegan.) Obviously, I love animals! :)

- Goldfinger
- Rise against
- Otep
In that order. Goldfinger was the first I found with their song ” Open your eyes” Which was brilliant then with Rise Against’s “Give it All” and now finally Otep’s “Remember to Forget” but alot of Otep songs can be applied to factory farming.
Those are the bands but there are lots of individual songs by bands like Linkin Parks “The Catalyst” or Good Charlottes “We Believe” that’s really influenced as well.

A band that helped me become Vegetarian was NeverShoutNever. Christofer Drew is my IDOL! And I have always thought that eating meat was kinda gross, and I’ve always felt guilty eating it, but I finally realized why do I eat it! And if Chris Drew can do it, so Can I!

I would have to say my biggest musical influence for animal rights (and ALL things activism) would be Rise Against! Tim McIlrath has to be one of my favorite people in the whole world because he uses music as his outlet to share his beliefs and jumps at any chance to get it out there that he is 100% animal cruelty free! I also admire that he is a parent and is sharing the importance of being nice to animals…I can relate to that! So, Rise Against opened the door to me and ever since I hold ALL vegan bands with the utmost respect!!

My comment didn’t save.
Bands that helped turn me vegan would be:
Riot/Clone
Citizen Fish
Conflict
Oi Polloi
Now that I’m straightedge too, I find myself connecting bigtime with Earth Crisis’ music.

Definately Nevershoutnever. The first time I saw “Meet your meat” was on his myspace years ago. From that day on, I never ate meat again. Also, Rise Against sort of.. re-enforced it, if that makes sense. But the number one was Nevershoutnever. <3

Framework and Raid, they really fought for what they stood up for. Their insights about earth/animal liberation made me question the inhumanity and atrocity of animal abuse.

Earth Crisis, Youth of Today, 108, and Shelter have all helped shape my perspective on vegan and straight edge beliefs. I listened to a track by Earth Crisis in 6th grade and their message rings true to this day. Whenever possible i advocate straight edge or animal rights to the fullest possible extent. Which is one of the reasons i recently decided to get the Earth Crisis X on the back of my leg.

I’ve been a supporter of Earth Crisis for about fourteen years. I learned about them through my brother who showed me a bootleg video of their California Takeover tour with Snapcase and Strife. I was new to hardcore, straight edge, animal rights…the whole nine yards. I was hooked from that point on. I was introduced to One King Down during the Rob Fusco era (who now sings for Most Precious Blood), and another Syracuse band Another Victim.
There have been a lot of bands that have come and gone, and maybe I was just so impressionable at the time I first heard some of these bands, but I think the mid-to-late-90′s was great for bands like Earth Crisis who had a powerful message about animal rights and also straight edge.
They influenced me then, and continue to influence me now. I can say there aren’t many bands in my collection who have had that kind of impact.
True legends for sure.

Rise Against, Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, Maroon 5, many bands! I listen to their songs all the time and they give me new inspiration for going further with my animal rights acts! I haven’t heard any of Earth Crisis’ stuff yet, but I would really love to! I have heard they are amazing and I know they will be!

Without a doubt, Earth Crisis and I tell ya, the liner notes “There is a War, this is a weapon” on the CD tray of Earth Crisis’ 2nd full length “Gomarrah’s Season Ends” caused me to see lots of issues in a different way….not just animal rights, but other social issues as well.

The band Gorilla Biscuits influenced my views on animal rights the most. They’ve been making songs about vegetarianism since the 80′s, and they’re the reason why I’m a vegan today.

London After Midnight was the band that made me go vegan. There was a message (probably still is) on their MySpace page that explained why everyone should go vegan. It also had the Meet your Meat video that changed my life in a day back then. As for Earth Crisis, the band has made me more “militant” in these same views. I’ve never been against the ALF but now I support the movement even more, thanks to EC.

Im no vegan. I like Hardcore music. And I like meat.
I know animals are abused. Sure. But that’s not gonna stop me from eating them. Cycle of life, food chain, evolution. Whatever. All I know is, right now, Humans are on top. And I like to eat good food that I can eat. Provided Im not gonna go out and kill a shark, but I would some bird.
That being said I have to say this.
When I saw the great Christian Metalcore band, Impending Doom, there were some people from Peta2 getting us to sign a petition. To get animal trainers in the circus to stop beating elephants. I like elephants. They shouldn’t be beaten. Especially not for our amusement. We’ve got Playstation and Xbox for that. So I signed that petition. I dont want my animals beaten. Just eaten. So I guess you can say Impending Doom got me into Animal rights.
And ever since I signed that petition (which I believe was the right thing to do.) I’ve been receiving emails from you guys…
Call me a “Monster,” or a “carnivore,” or whatever you want.
I wanna be my own person. And I want my food the way I want it.

I became veg after hearing a song from NY punk band A.P.P.L.E. called “Squeal Time,” which just hit me so hard. Went vegan not long after due to Into Another (who did a 7″ to support PETA). Finally, I started listening to Earth Crisis with “Destroy The Machines,” which just reinforced my commitment to veganism and a host of other ethical issues. Definitely the band that defined the vegan straight edge movement, and made me proud to be both.

Earth Crisis is definitely one of those bands that pushed me towards veganism. i definitely see them as a stepping stone in the hardcore community for something that is worth fighting for. animal rights.
not just Earth Crisis though.
7 Generations was amazing while they lasted. shame that they split.
Gather is also another Vegan band i really looked up too.
Abandon is another awesome band ive been into lately.
Punch just got signed to Deathwish Inc. which is super aweesome. they deserve it.
these are all bands that have helped keep me proud of myself for what i do to help animals.
