T-Shirt Tuesday: Win a 'VGN' Shirt

Profile photo of DianaM21066

Posted November 20, 2012 by Diana Mendoza

The holidays are officially here! We’ve got a ton of great stuff lined up for you guys—like this brand-new ‘VGN’ shirt that you can win by commenting on this blog post—but first, let’s remember that holidays are totally about spending time with loved ones, celebrating life and family, spreading joy, and being thankful for what we have. It’s a season of compassion and “good will toward men”—or, as we like to think of it, toward ALL living beings.

Remember: The simplest, most direct, most compassionate choice that you can make this holiday season is to ditch the meat and go vegan! And ain’t no one gonna be more thankful than the millions of tortured birds, beaten pigs, or sick cows on factory farms when you make the choice not to eat them.

peta vegan (vgn) tshirt

Whether you’re VeGetariaN or VeGaN, you can rock this shirt with pride, knowing that your cruelty-free holiday meals go further to spread the message of good will than just sending a pretty card. This winter, live the spirit of the season: Put your money where your mouth is—or you could say, “Put your dinner plate where your heart is”—and give animals something to be thankful for by going veg.

Want to win this shirt? Tell us your fave vegan holiday dish that impresses your meat-eating family and friends.

Good luck!*

*The winner will be chosen at random from submitted animal-friendly comments in which the commenters tell us what their fave vegan holiday dish is. Entries must be received by November 27, 2012. The winner will be chosen at random and notified on November 29, 2012. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law.

Heads up! By commenting here, you’re acknowledging that you’ve read and you agree to our contest terms and conditions and our privacy policy, and you’re also agreeing to our collection, storage, use, and disclosure of your personal info in accordance with those policies as well as to receiving e-mails from us.

So our traditional dish in Mexico are tamales for Christmas. People usually eat them with chicken and jalepeno peppers and cheese. I got my mother cooking vegan tamales this year again. Usually hispanics put animal fat around the corn hub also known as ( maza de maiz) in spanish. Not anymore in our household! Try this out!

buy a tub of corn hub mix 2 cups of vegan butter spread is use (earth balance). spread the mixture on a corn leaf . add galaxy nutritional vegan cheese or anyother brand. Jalepenos if you like spice. half a slice of tofuturky, and them close the corn leaf. Put in oven and wait till a couple hours to bake!
    Fun Mexican VEGAN meal! :)

My recent task was to make a dish to bring to my family for the holidays. We made a agreement to skip on the turkey and go with the tofurkey! GO ME 😉 well I brought a dish that was vegan without even saying anything to anyone. No one knew it was even vegan and lets just say, there were no leftovers. Its one of my favs, so delicious. here is the recipe for who wants to try it!
    5 pounds plums
    1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1 pound sugar (I used fine-grain organic cane sugar)
    3 tablespoons rose water
USE IT TO TOP OFF WHOLE GRAIN WAFFLES, PANCAKES, CREPES, OR SOME NON DAIRY FROZEN YOGURT!

I like to have this breaded, fried, softly spiced tofu. I found it on http://allrecipes.com/recipe/breaded-fried-softly-spiced-tofu/ It is so good. I made it for class but no one wanted it because they thought tofu was gross. But when they tried it they wanted more. It taste so good that when it’s cooking it makes you literally almost drool!

Tofurky to me because while people rush out to go buy a real murdered turkey, it’s nice to go buy a Tofurky and share it with friends who are also Vegan or Vegetarian and also with family changing their mindset to where they actually try Vegan food because Thanksgiving is all about family and thanks and to me as long as I can change my family’s or friends viewpoints even if it’s for that day I’m thankful they took the chance to try something new instead of sticking to the typical murdered turkey :)

My favorite vegan holiday dish has to be my vegan baked ziti! I use a rich and creamy tofu ricotta, vegan cheese melted on top, and sometimes add some vegan meatless crumbles! Everyone I have ever made this dish for has LOVED it and couldn’t believe it was vegan! My non-vegan family even requests it! My second favorite homemade vegan dish is creamy pumpkin pasta! I can’t stand to see all of those pumpkins wasted on halloween. It comes out like a rich creamy alfredo! The secret ingredient in the creamy pumpkin sauce is melted vegan cream cheese. Delicious! But my favorite part of the holidays is going around to parks and feeding the animals..They’re ‘people’ too! In my eyes, there’s nothing more beautiful than honoring all forms of life- I feel truly thankful to be able to give to the animals. Nothing brings me more joy than the feeling of looking into the eyes of a fellow fuzzy earthling and seeing a part of myself.

I’ve actually had quite a few vegan dishes that have surprised my family and had quite a few that people didn’t even realize was vegan. For one Tofurky always goes over well, even if people are just curious and want to taste it they end up eating more. And any kind of pie. Which is so easy to veganize.

My favorite is a good vegan corn bread stuffing. At this year’s celebration for the turkeys at Farm Sanctuary the thanksgiving feast at the end of the night was a big hit and is now going to be a thanksgiving tradition for me and hopefully my whole family. I am so glad my family chose to cut turkey out of their thanksgiving this year and give the turkeys something to be thankful for. Im seeing a shift in society that really gives me hope, its a shift towards a more compassionate way of living, a vegan way of living :)

I make a killer Pumpkin Pie, Tofu-Cheesecake and Chocolate Chip Cookies! Every time people come over I make one or more for my non-vegan friends and don’t tell them they’re vegan desserts until they’re gone. They’re always impresed ’cause non of them would try them if I tell before they eat. I love making these and opening their minds to vegan food, show them how good vegan food can be, and many of them have asked me to make them again or to give them the recipes. I always feel proud of myself :)

I just enjoy pointing out vegan stuff that people already eat. ^.^ The best things are simple.
