This week is already off to a great start! Most of us enjoyed a 3-day weekend (thank you Mr. Presidents), the coldest month of the year is almost over (hallelujah!), and today I have a new interview and new music from one of the most talked about new bands on the scene, Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.). A super group of sorts, comprised of old peta2 friends Craig Owens (Chiodos) and Adam Russell (Story of the Year) alongside ex members of Matchbook Romance and From First To Last, D.R.U.G.S. has quickly become the talk of the town and earned top ranks by being selected to champion this spring’s AP Tour.

Check out our interview with Owens and bassist Adam Russell, and enter the contest below for your chance to pick up the new album!

For your chance to win a copy of Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows’ debut album, comment below and tell us what first opened your eyes to animal rights. Entries must be received by March 1, 2011. Five winners will be chosen at random and notified on March 4, 2011. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law.

i actuly wrote a paper in the 7th grade about animal testing. it made me think about how important animals were to our life. what surprised me from that day was that animals are given such high doses of supposdly “safe” drugs that there harmfull to humans. ever since that day, ive been eating less and less meat and am now currently vegetarian. i have to say, its fun and i love how it feels to be healthy and not on medicine from meet anymore!

Well I used to eat meat simply because I really loved it. Even now I still enjoy the taste of it. That said, I’ve been a vegetarian for over a year now. What started this journey for me was my philosophy class on ethics. In class we did this little group thing about how far our moral compass expands, assuming we have one. I said from humans, animals, and to the earth. My classmates in my groups(all vegetarians and one vegan) asked if I was a vegetarian. I said I was not. They then went on to ask just how I could care about animals while eating them. I was dumbfounded. I could not answer. I was in a messy situation though. I could not bring myself to say I did not care. I went home and came onto the PETA site and then I watched Earthlings the documentary. After that I realized I had been living my life all wrong. It was in that moment I stopped eating meat and decided that all animals deserve the right to live. So thus I was now consistent with my moral compass. Since then I’ve never looked back. Meat is a luxury to us Americans. If we can live without it, why kill innocent animals? It’s sad, it’s cruel, it’s wrong. Since then I’ve been all for animal rights and more!

I went vegetarian during my freshman year of high school because I heard about McCruelty. As I was watching one of the videos, I felt (to be honest) like I was going to throw up and had to stop the video because it was so gruesome. Then I started wondering what kind of cold-hearted ‘people’ could do this to a poor defenseless animal.

When I was 5 an my Mother and I were in the kitchen we heard a thump against the window. Within moments she has a towel full of sparrow that she then spent nursing back to health. We had a very long talk and from that moment on I knew that I wanted things to be better for creatures in this world. She told me how to do it, told me of choices and the bigger picture. Since then I have been doing the same as she to whatever extent I could. I have also taught my children to do the same.

When I was in about the 4th grade, I came home from school on the bus. The bus stopped and let my neighbors off, but there was something strange. There was blood all over their front porch. The bus driver proceeded and let me off next. I immediately ran over there with my neighbor and his dog was laying on their porch dead. Someone shot his dog. When I saw this I knew something needed to change. I knew people needed to stop killing animals.

I have always loved animals. Always. I tried starting from around age 8 to go veg a couple times but finally did when I was 15. Now I have been veg for 3 years and vegan for 2 months. What really opened my eyes was watching videos on here. Another thing was eating a piece of meat that still had the artery in it. I almost puked because I could no longer disassociate what I was eating from the creature it came from.

First of all i went vegetarian for about 3 years and i change to vegan and now i am 8 months of being vegan. went i watch a video of meet your meat on a computer i think i don’t remember when i became vegan or vegetarian i just drop the plate and say,:” what F#$% i am eatin’ and i realize that eatin’ meat it wrong because it have a lots of pestice and atibotic and grow hormone so the cow could grow much bigger. and i though of my self i don’t want to eat meat for ever i want to change my lifestyle and be healthy and i want to respect animals and the planet and the my body. I don’t want to eat no more meat. But when i told my mom that i am goin’ vegetarian or vegan she was disaprove that i should become vegetarian or vegan and she though that i am going to be crazy and weak and malnutrition and not ahvin’ enough protein and calcium and much more. when i became vegan i was like i want to do somethin’ on my life and and i want to help the animals and become a Animals Right activist and do somethin’ to myself and the animals because animals don’t have a voice to express themself and all the people have to speak for them and let them voice be heared and be a good and compassionate and lovin’ person to animals and i am very proud of becomin’ VEGAN because when i saw a video of PETA2 i was like OMG!!!!! and i want to change that by not eatin’ meat and dairy product. Peta2 open my mind and eyes that eatin’ meat is totally wrong. and i so proud of my self that i am a vegan and i am continued being vegan for ever and ever and ever for my rest of my life and helping animals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i have 4 friends that are vegetarian and they have being vegetariaon for theri rest of their life.
I am so proud of them and I would to thank to am so proud of PETA and PETA2 for openin’ my eyes and mind.

Actually I’ve lovedanimals since I remember myself, cuz I grew up with 3 dogs, many cats. I lived in old country house, pretty far from my human friends, so theywere (and still are! :) ) my friends. :)
But signing pledges and speaking out loud I started at last years september, when I ran into this (peta2.com) and PETA.org sites. :)

I have always loved animals and had a lot of pets. When I got older I couldn’t differentiate how we can treat some animals like family members and others so poorly. I tried to give up meat and looked up information at the library and have been an animal activist ever since.

I first went vegetarian while I was in my environmental science class, I became really inspired by things of the like. The next year I took a Nature Center class and learned about different habitats and animals. One of my fellow class mates had a sticker on her binder and told me where I could learn more information. I was instantly hooked :) Now I check the blogs almost everyday and watch as many different documentaries on animal rights as I can.

my first exposure to the choice of being vegetarianism was through a TV show actually, Brace Face. It was when i was 12 and every time the girl in the show went to eat meat, it would turn into an animal’s face. This put 2 and 2 together in my mind that the meat on my plate came from a fellow earthling!!!
After doing research on the effects of meat eating on my health and my environment, how could i not go vegetarian, and then vegan!

I went veg when I went to Warped Tour in the summer of 2010. I had heard of PETA, but never investigated or knew really what they were about. I went to Warped Tour with one of my best friends who’s veg and she said “We have to go to the PETA tent!” So, we did and they gave me recipes for cooking veg, free stickers, and a dvd. When I got home I watched to video curious to see what it was about. On the dvd were horribly sad images/videos of animals being beaten and brutally injured alive. Heartbroken, I texted my mom (she wasn’t home, i was home alone) and told her “I’M GOING VEG!” The next day we went to the store and got veggie burgers and lotsa yummy veg foods. (: Now whenever I crave bacon or pork fried rice I come to peta2.com and watch those videos and look at those pictures. Thank you, PETA. You changed my life. <3

I was sitting in foods class about a year ago and we started talking about how many animals are consumed per year and watched a video on the slaughter houses and production of meat. I’d always hated the idea of eating met, it doesn’t even taste that good, so then and there I decided to become a vegetarian. I went home and researched a bit and came across your website and videos and was sure I would never eat meat again. Eating meat isn’t hard, and I’m working on becoming a vegan :)

I read an article in the newspaper about celebrity vegetarians and it got me thinking about eating animals. It stuck with me and afterwards I felt guiltu about saying that I was a pet lover because I felt bad about saying that knowing that I still ate cows, fish and chickens.

I first got into animal rights after my first Warped Tour. That was 4 years ago. While there, I was handed a Meet Your Meat DVD. When I got home, I watched and was absolutely horrified. I never wanted to eat meat again and even stopped eating beef for a while. I couldn’t stand the thought of what happened to that cow before it was set on my plate. It was difficult to become vegetarian in my house at the time because my family told me I was stupid. I didn’t have much control of it. Now that I’m in college, I’m starting to move towards vegetarianism. I eat a little meat as I can. My school provides vegan friendly foods, even though they aren’t all that good. After warped tour, I looked into animal cruelty a bunch more. I joined the peta2 street team and do what I can. I;m even on my second research paper on animal rights.

Last Thanksgiving (2010), I started thinking about all the turkeys people buy and realized Thanksgiving & most holidays are no hoildays for animals, they are murder days for these poor animals. I was feeling sorry for them, and decided that I need to go vegetarian soon. Also, I read a book called Chew on This by Eric Schlosser/ Charles Wilson and learned more about the atrocities that slaugtherhouse animals go through. Also I do not like the taste of meat (unless it is loaded with spices, which basically means that the spices/ flavorings are what taste good, not the meat). Every since December 31, 2010, I have been a vegetarian and I’m still going strong. Ever since my diet change to vegetarianism, I feel even healthier than before. It’s great to be vegetarian, and to save animals too:)

I think what first opened my eyes to animal rights, was my first visit to a veal producing farm. My mother’s friend pointed showed me what they do with baby cows, and afterwards I was pretty traumatized. From then, I did more research, and I didn’t like what I found. I went vegetarian, then vegan.

What first opened my eyes to animals rights were the peta2 booklets I recieved at Warped Tour last year. I read them (since I love reading booklets) and checked the website. It really didn’t sink in until january how terrible animals were treated and that they deserve way better. The videos made me believe it all and I was determined to remove animal products out of my way of living. We do not need animal products to live. The animals should be free. Freedom is key.

I first got involved in animal rights when my family gave up meat for Lent. When I searched the web for information about being a vegetarian, I stumbled upon PETA.org. And THAT’S how I got involved in animal rights. :)

I went vegetarian at the beginning of 7th grade. I was raised to know that humans have dominion over the animals of the land, sea, and air. However, I was thinking one day that, to me, this means that we have a responsibility to care for them and i don’t believe that entails eating them. From that point I was vegetarian. I later decided to vegan and I think that everyone should try it at least once in their life.
