Win the New Mayday Parade EP

Posted March 8, 2011 by Megan Rondeau

I feel like I’ve said this at least once or twice before, but I’m gonna go ahead and throw it out there again—Tuesdays are the best weekdays. Why, you ask? Because Tuesdays are when new albums come out! (Unless you’re Radiohead and you can’t be bothered with things so trivial as days of the week and release schedules.)

A few great releases came out today, including Lupe Fiasco’s looonnng-awaited LASERS and the latest from our friends at Bridge 9, Defeater’s Empty Days and Sleepless Nights. Also out today is the new EP from peta2 pals Mayday Parade. As I’m sure you remember, we caught up with lead singer Derek Sanders last summer on Warped Tour to pick his brain about what prompted him to go vegetarian. In case you missed it, check out the video below to find out and then enter to win the new EP!

I can definitely see how Eating Animals inspired Derek to give up meat. If you haven’t read that book yet, I highly recommend you do. And if you have already read it, pass it on to friends and family!

So what inspired you to help save more than 100 animals every year by going veg? Let us know in the comments, and three winners will be chosen at random to receive a copy of Mayday Parade’s new EP, Valdosta. Entries must be received by March 15, 2011 and winners will be notified on March 16, 2011. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law.

Just so you know, by commenting here, you’re acknowledging that you’ve read and agreed to our privacy policy.

Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

Good luck!

well i started dating this guy his mom was vegan and she told me all about it i was horrified but i didnt believe that normal everyday people could be so heartless so she sat down at a computer and went to meet your meat.com and showed me the video i cried. She told me i could fix this by helping out. which thus inspired me to create a club at my high school all about helping animals and preach to others about what really happens. Sure i get laughed at and people sometimes say rude things but only because they dont understand therefore i keep veggin’

1)My friend Kristian told me he was a vegetarian and I wanted to impress him(:
2)Kristian told me to watch Meet Your Meat and I was completely horrified and immediately brought to tears!
3)I met this girl and a guy standing in the park in Washington DC, with big signs tables set up and they were passing stuff out about Peta and I thought it was really cool that they would do that and I checked out the sight (peta2) 😀 And I loved it!

I saw NeverShoutNever’s! profile had “Meet your Meat” on his myspace profile. That’s when I decided to be vegetarian. A week afterwards, I became vegan. But like most people will think, I didn’t not become vegan just to follow after Christopher Drew.

I’ve always had an aversion to meat. Just the thought of something dead, sitting there on your plate just disgusts me. I decided I wanted no part in factory farming or anything of the sort. I was 13 when I stopped eating meat, I’m almost 17 now, and becoming a vegetarian was the best decision I ever made.

I started giving up meat for Lent and during that time of reflection, I realized how horrible it was to eat animals. I also felt much healthier and a happier person in general. I am now vegan and have been vegetarian for over 2 years. This is not a diet, but a lifestyle. I just wish more people would also adapt a vegan diet.

To be honest, after seeing a certain video of some chinese people making fur, I’ve gone extremely obsessed with different ways of saving the animals.
I’ve told a couple of people about just how horrible it was, and I’ve showed it to a few, too, – but I personally have had nightmares a while after seeing the vid.

it all started when I went to my first concert, to see NSN! November 28, 2010. after the concert, I got a free ‘No Fur’ button, and a free pamphlet+ a free DVD. after I watched the DVD, and read the pamphlet, I realized how terrible meat-eaters were, and how horrible animals are being treated. now, I’m as happy as ever!

what inspired me most to go vegetarian was that most of the world pollution is caused from all the waste that is left over from the animals killed daily for food. you have to think of alll the parts of the animal that we dont use and think where does it all go? and of course we all know about the evils of animals farming and all that yucky stuf! but what really inspired me was going green and saving our planet ( and the animals! )

Peta’s video “Meet Your Meat” is definately what got me inspired to be a vegetarian. It kind of puts the brutal truth in your face so there is no way to avoid it; what you are eating was in fact a living creature. There is no way around the harsh reality that you are devouring what once held a fellow soul.

When I was younger, we used to go on fishing trips with my uncle’s family. One day, while coming back, they decided to put the fish on my lap (and I was on my mother’s lap). I could FEEL the fish choking. A couple of years later, I was walking with my mum and it was Adha (a Muslim holiday/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid_al-Adha). One of the traditions is killing a sheep for sacrifice. One look at the sheep’s eyes was enough for me to stop.

Growing up, my dad always taught me to never hurt a living thing regardless of if it seemed like a “pointless” ant or a scary spider (I’m TERRIFIED of spiders). His teachings always stuck in my head. Then it dawned on me, if I shouldn’t step on ant or “hurt” any living thing, doesn’t that mean I shouldn’t eat meat? How is going to the store and buying a package of chicken any different than stepping on a bug outside or hurting a pet? Its way worse. I felt like we were spending money for other people to do the dirty work so that we could eat. Would I have the heart to kill an animal? NO! So why pay people to do it? Being young, it wasn’t easy to not eat meat simply because that was what was for dinner. When I was older, I was able to make decisions on my own so when I was 14 I went vegetarian. It only lasted like 3 months. I went vegetarian just because I loved animals and wanted no part in harm towards them. Well it didn’t last and I went back to eating meat. While on the nevershoutnever myspace I found a link to a video on the peta website. It was only like 6 minutes long and I balled my eyes out the entire time and was dumbfounded that this is what I was eating. That one meal could cause so much torture and pain to these innocent animals. After the video I cried for about another 30 minutes trying to figure out the purpose of slaughtering the animals so cruelly. I found none. Right after I went to my mom and had a long talk with her. I told her I refused to EVER eat meat again and of course she thought it would be like the phase I had gone through a few years ago when it didn’t last long. She took me to the store and I stocked up on veggies, pastas, fruit, tofu, veggie burgers and veggie dogs and even veggie chicken patties (really good) and went home to experiment with my new diet. After a few weeks I was PRO at making really good meatless meals that even my meat eating friends and family loved. I’m 17 now and have been a loyal vegetarian for a 1 year and 4 months. I love everything about my new lifestyle and I’ve been passing it on to friends(:

    What inspired me:
    1. Watching the videos on animals that get tortured for their meat – I will NEVER eat meat again!!
    2. Reading about companies that torture animals by testing on them (like Unilever;the makers of Lipton tea were doing, however they have recently stopped, thanks to PETA!) – I will NEVER shop from a place that tests on animals again!!
    3. hearing about animals (like seals) that get brutally murdered for their fur – I will NEVER wear an animal again!!

The thing that really opened my eyes and encouraged me to become veg was the Meet Your Meat video. I literally was in tears when watching it and that was when I decided to Give up meat. So far I’ve, happily, gone without meat for just over 6 months =) even though many of my friends think it’s cool, some of them (and even family) don’t support my choice and tell me it’s dumb, and that has given me even more inspiration to push forward with my no-meat, Meat is murder, animals are friends not food, lifestyle. ♥

Since around 3rd grade when I actually found out where all of my food comes from (yes, it took that long) I had tossed around the idea of going vegetarian. However, my New Years’ resolution was to start eating better before I went off to college this fall. I had been looking around for different types of ideas when my favorite show (Bones) came on. During the episode they went inside a factory chicken farm, and showed the cruelty going on there. Crying, I did some research to see if any of it was true. I figured PETA might be a good place to find some information. The first website I got to was one of PETA’s videos about factory farming. The moment it started playing I made up my mind to go vegan and have been for almost three months now. (:

I’ve known all my life that I loved animals, but I chose to go veggie because of several PETA videos I watched online. My first was about factory farming. It was horrid. And after that I wanted to watch more, so came videos on seal slaughter, animal testing, and fur farming. I wanted to help prevent myself from causing so much exploitation anymore, so I became veggie.

I’ve been a vegetarian my whole life. I’m turning fourteen in less than a month so I’m really proud of myself. My inspiration keeps me a vegetarian, not makes me one. I’m a closed off person sometimes, even with family. Although I am, I simply love my parents and brother to death. The same goes with animals, because they feel to, as we learn every day. My inspiration is that as the slogan goes, meet is murder. Those animals have family, others they care for. The fact is, when you eat an animal, that animal was once a living creature. It had a mother and a father, and possibly sibblings or children too. To eat an animal is like eatinga family member or friend. It is NEVER okay. I’ve tried meat three times in my life. Every time, I vommited after and cried. The only thing I saw when I ate them was this, my family.

three things that inspired me to become a vegetarian are
    1. factory farming. it’s disgusting and looks painful to the poor animals who have to grow through it
2.animal abuse; which makes me so sick to my stomach, and reminds me that when i eat an animal it’s felt something relative to that pain before dying for the sole purpose of becoming food
    3. my love for animals. animals are beautiful and need to be adored; not ate.
