Win the New A Loss For Words CD!
Posted May 12, 2010 by Megan Rondeau
Named one of Alternative Press’ “100 Bands You Need To Know” in 2010, Boston pop-punk boys, A Loss For Words, are certainly living up to the hype. After years of touring with fellow hometown heroes, Four Year Strong, and their West Coast counterpart, Set Your Goals, A Loss For Words are set to break with a new (ridiculously catchy) covers album and a full U.S. tour scheduled for the summer. Check out my interview with A Loss For Words’ vegetarian guitarist Marc Dangora, and enter to win a copy of their new CD, Motown Classics!

*****What prompted you to become vegetarian? Were there any bands, books, etc. that influenced your decision?I became a vegetarian about 6 years ago. I was really interested at the time with the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle since a few friends of mine were vegetarian/vegan. I wanted to better my own
personal health and to do my part in bettering the situation for animals and how they are treated. I literally decided one day to just
take the plunge, so to speak, and I haven’t eaten meat since.
Propagandhi is one band that definitely hits home [with] valid points about animal cruelty. The first time I heard “Nailing Descartes to the Wall” I was blown away. It’s really awesome that a band can really convey a serious message and still kick ass. Also, I recently read
The Meat You Eat by Ken Midkiff. It’s actually written by a meat-eater, but it illustrates the major issues we as a culture face by eating processed meat from
factory farms. It should be read by vegetarians and meat eaters alike.
What are some of your favorite vegetarian and/or vegan foods? There are so many great dishes. Johnny (our Tour Manager) and I love trying any vegan friendly places wherever we go.
Grasshopper, back home in Boston, has probably one of the best dishes around—The No Name. If you haven’t been there, you really need to go. I recently went to
Three Brothers Pizza on Long Island for the first time. It is a normal Italian Restaurant and they also have a full vegan menu. They have great mozzarella sticks made using
Daiya Cheese. I also love Amy’s Products.
Of all of the major animal rights issues are there any issues that are particularly close to your heart?I feel like most everyone can get behind fighting
factory farming. For some people, it is really hard to look beyond what is going on in everyday life. Most people are worried about self-interest. If you really look into what chemicals are put into your food by corporate farms, you would think more about the food you are eating. I feel like just being aware of what you put in your body keeps you living better.
If a fan were to approach you with questions about how to get involved with animal rights, what advice would you give him or her?I would tell him/her to just follow your heart and your mind. There are plenty of reasons to
go veg. It’s a personal choice. I don’t force the idea down someone’s throat, but it makes sense to me. If I can help someone understand it better and make changes, then I would be happy to. There is plenty of literature on the subject. Do some investigating. Change how you live. Change the world.
What do you guys have coming up that we can be looking forward to?We are releasing a Motown Cover Record on Paper & Plastick Records this May, and then we head out with some great friends on a U.S. tour with our good friends Transit and some dates including Kid Liberty, Fallen From The Sky,
This Time Next Year, and Such Gold. It should be a really great time; looking forward to it.
*****You can catch
A Loss For Words on tour all summer, and if you live in the Boston area, be sure to head out to Worcester for their CD release show this Friday at The Palladium!
To get you pumped for the summer tour, I have three copies of Motown Classics to give away! For your chance to win, leave a comment with what tours you’re looking forward to going to this summer. I’m most excited for the vegetarian picnic my friend Hannah is having with several of our friends at our local park in a few weeks.
Even though we’ll be the only ones who are vegetarian, we hope to prove that summery vegetarian foods are yummy!
And hopefully change a few minds.
